Top Surprises of E3 2021

There are two things you can be sure about, when it comes to videogame shows like E3, one is that there will be leaks and two, there will be surprises or as it should be said, the things that didn’t leak.

E3 2021 had a few leaks to be sure, but these are the top surprises that caught us off guard, for whatever reason and as such, made us quite happy.

Jack Sparrow joins the Sea of Thieves

Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S - June 23

When Sea of Thieves first set sail, many players were impressed by the game, but felt it was lacking, in more than a few ways and that began a lot of chatter about getting Pirates of the Caribbean into the game. Now three years later, it seems that has come true, as the trailer below shows, but this is not just some emotes and a new outfit, this is a massive five part chapter, which starts tomorrow.

Metal Slug Tactics

PC - TBA

The Metal Slug series has a long history and its fans have been there for most of it, but there has been quite a while between new games, so when Metal Slug Tactics popped up, people were happy, but they were even more so, when they realised it was as the name suggests a Tactics game. While only announced for PC right now, the game is sure to draw in new players and of course, those Metal Slug fans, whenever ire releases.

Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp

Switch - December 3

The only thing more impressive than a remake of the two GameBoy Advance titles would be an all new entry, but this will work for now. As the name, and the previous line states, this is a remake of the first two western released games, which as a fan is great news, but more than that, no-one expected this to ever happen, which made it quite a welcome surprise.

Metroid Dread

Switch - October 8

Much like the one above, no-one ever expected to see Metroid Dread, given it was first announced 19 years ago, but see it we have and play it soon we will. The games reveal was big news, purely because it was not something anyone could have guessed, sure a new Metroid game is always wanted, but it’s like wishing for a million dollars, no-one expects it to just drop in your lap.

The Legend of Zelda Game and Watch

Game and Watch - November 12

When Nintendo announced a remastering of Skyward Sword HD, many thought that would be all we would get for the Zelda 35th anniversary, but few hoped there would be more. That hope was for the Wii U versions of the Wind Waker and Twilight Princess to be brought across to Switch, but another Game and Watch, with three Zelda games, that was out of left field entirely.

So there you go, the top surprises for us at E3 2021, but what about you, what games shocked you upon their reveal.
