E3 2021 confirmed to be returning, but only as an online event
After E3 2020 was cancelled, due to the pandemic, there was a bit of a void in June, but other folks took up the challenge to fill that void, with their own events. This year though, E3 is back and while it is purely digital, big names have already signed on.
The show is set to run around the same time as the usual physical show, but instead of it being the Tuesday through Thursday, it will start earlier. Starting on June 12 in Los Angeles and running through June 15, which is the Tuesday, the show is aiming to have good coverage for its four days.
“For more than two decades, E3 has been the premier venue to showcase the best that the video game industry has to offer, while uniting the world through games,” said Stanley Pierre-Louis, President & CEO of the ESA. “We are evolving this year’s E3 into a more inclusive event, but will still look to excite the fans with major reveals and insider opportunities that make this event the indispensable centre stage for video games.”
With early commitments from Nintendo, Xbox, Capcom, Konami, Ubisoft, Take-Two Interactive, Warner Bros. Games and Koch Media, and more to come, E3 2021 is shaping up to be interesting, just will have to wait and see on that important digital aspect.
It is highly likely that EA will host EA Play again, which they did last year and while it usually runs at the same time as the main E3 show, it is not technically connected. There is no word on what PlayStation might do this year
