E3 2022 is not taking place in person, unsure if a digital show will happen in its place

After being an online only show in 2021, many assumed that E3 would return to a physical show in 2022, but the ESA, the Electronic Software Association, who run the show, have confirmed that it will be a digital only event again this year.

In a statement given to GamesBeat, the ESA had this to say about the show not being in person again.

“Due to the ongoing health risks surrounding COVID-19 and its potential impact on the safety of exhibitors and attendees, E3 will not be held in person in 2022. We remain incredibly excited about the future of E3 and look forward to announcing more details soon.”

While they did host an online event last year, it really wasn’t that well received, with many publishers opting to host their own online events as normal.

Given that there is still months away between the usual dates of the show and now, more details about what they might do, should be released, but as most Australians don’t get to go, this shouldn’t impact those here.
