Saints Row delivers an insane amount of choice, giving you complete control over customisation

Deep Silver and developer Volition have revealed some of the customisation that players can look forward to, when they get their hands on Saints Row later this year. From the top of your head, to the sole of your prosthetic leg, there is a lot to change about how you look, let alone the cars, guns and base you use. Check out the trailer to get an idea about what you can expect.

Player options are the most detailed that I have ever seen in a game, they take the basics like hair colour, shirt type and add like 14 more levels to each. If we just focus on the head, you could spend hours getting your look just right there, from the hair style to the colour of it and even two-tone colours and more. Then you can get into things like make up, what eye shadow will they use, or lipstick colour, perhaps they have some tattoos on their face instead.

But it isn’t just the standard options, because most games let you do things like that, but here you can opt to split your eyes off to different levels, changing the colour of one to something different as well. All the options mean that your character in Saints Row will be uniquely yours and that is long before we get into the rest of the work.

Once you have the head sorted, you need to focus on the rest of the body and that opens up even more options, are you going to be tall and muscular, or perhaps short and with a fake leg. There is no limit to the options that you can embrace with the body shape and then you have to choose the skin. Do you plan on being the whitest of white players around, or perhaps you would rather be neon purple with bright green hair, you can do that. You can even opt to change the texture of your skin, to allow you to look more metal than even, as in made of metal, there are that many options.

The same level of detail applies to clothes, you can dress like a golfer but have the skin tone of a Martian, but dance like a drunk sailor, the options for you are limitless.

That same train of thought carries across to the cars as well, you can just drive around Santo Ileso in whatever you find, but you can also take your car to JimRobs, the local franchise for car customisation. Here you can go crazy, change up the sound of the engine, the skirts of your car, accessories on top of it and more.

If you want your crew to look like a crew when they hit the street, you can even design the Saints car, meaning that everyone in the gang will drive that same car, giving you a sense of satisfaction when you see them crowding the streets. Car customisation is normal in games, but being able to save presets for your helicopter or other crazy things, like a tank, that is new and once you have them looking right, it is time to give them the skills they need as well, so things like tow cables, booster kits and more, ensuring you are ready for action at anytime.

Looking the part and riding onto the scene in style is only part of the role of being a boss, for those who want to go further, you can even customise your guns. From the paint job on the entire gun, to painting the individual parts themselves, there is a lot to change here, heck you can even make some weapons look like everyday items.

Once you have dominated the streets in style though, you will need a place to relax and that is where your new HQ comes into play, the church is yours to change up how you want, make the outside look sleek and fun, while the inside features an over-sized cowboy hat, or reverse it and go for old and busted outside and hot and fresh in, the choices are yours.

If you want to learn more about what is available to you, be sure to check out the full developer roundtable below, as they will showcase even more of what is possible in the game.

The game itself is coming on August 23rd for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4, but before the game launchers, a player creation app will be available, giving players the chance to design their boss, before they get into the game
