The Nintendo World Championships 2024 are back on this April
With the Nintendo World Championships happening this weekend for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Splatoon 3, there are more details around what is going to happen.
The Day One broadcast will kick off at 1pm AEST, or 12pm Japan time and the first hour is dedicated to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, then 2 hours later the Splatoon 3 broadcast kicks off. This one is slightly different as there are multiple teams and matches required, so it will start at 3pm AEST or 2pm Japan time and run for 3 hours.
For Day Two, the fun starts at 12pm AEST or 11am Japan time with a 90 minute session for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, then a break before the 3pm AEST or 2pm Japan time start for Splatoon 3.
Speaking of Splatoon, the Splatoon 3 page has been updated in Japan, to break down each of the competing teams, including Oceanias very own Greasy Goblins. You can view the page here, but you will need to translate it to read it, one of the things it does let you view is the teams strengths, like the below for the Greasy Goblins.
The stages for the first round will be chosen from a list of 8, once a stage has been used it will be removed from the potentials, ensuring that each of the stages are used.
The names of each stage are:
Scorch Gorge
Eeltail Alley
Hagglefish Market
Undertow Spillway
Mincemeat Metalworks
Robo ROM-en
Bluefin Depot
marlin airport
Weapons can only be used if they are obtainable from a store, same with gear, though basic gear from amiibo are allowed, which means amiibo are supported. All play must be done with a Pro Controller as well.
As for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, things will be a bit different. As there are 12 races and the winner is the person with the most points at the end of those 12 races. Their official page has been updated as well, with a section for Panda, who is the Oceania representative.

After Nintendo decided to cancel Nintendo Live Tokyo 2024 back in December 2023 due to threats made against staff, a big question was around the Nintendo World Championships for both Splatoon 3 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and now we know when they are set to take place.
The events will take place across Saturday April 13 and Sunday April 14, the exact timing of which is when is not yet known. The one thing we do know is that both events will be live-streamed, but there will be no in-person viewing available.
The #Splatoon3 World Championship 2024 and #MarioKart 8 Deluxe World Championship 2024, originally planned for Nintendo Live 2024 TOKYO, are now planned to take place in Japan 13/04 - 14/04.

The championships will be livestreamed worldwide. Please stay tuned for more info. pic.twitter.com/oeWlE7B3Cs
While it is great to see them back on, I can’t fathom the lack of an in-person crowd, as if Covid-19 era sports and esports events taught us, without crowds its not that exciting.
