Star Wars is keeping the animation love going with new shows and returning ones
During Star Wars Celebration, there were are plethora of animated Star Wars shows announced, some of them are new seasons of existing shows and some are all new.
The returning shows are ones that fans will rejoice over, with The Bad Batch season 2 coming later this year and Star Wars Visions is getting a second volume in 2023.
Star Wars The Bad Batch is set to return to Disney+ later this year, with actors Dee Bradley Baker and Michelle Ang, back as Hunter, Echo, Wrecker, Tech and Crosshair for Dee and Omega voiced by Michelle.
Star Wars Visions is set return in 2023 sometime during the Autumn months, but where is a massive change, these shorts won’t just be created in Japan, as animation houses from around the world are being involved. That means studios from South Korea, India, France, Chilli, Ireland, England and more, will join the force for this second volume.
In terms of new shows, there were two new shows announced, Star Wars Young Jedi Adventures and Star Wars Tales of the Jedi. The first of the two shows is aimed at the younglings in your life, with the show being designed to air on Disney+ and on Disney Jr.
The first full-length animated Star Wars series created for preschoolers, early grade schoolers, and their families, these original stories will follow Younglings as they are swept off into adventures, and start their journeys on the path to becoming Jedi Knights, learning valuable skills for our galaxy and the galaxy far, far away. The Jedi-in-training will tackle topics of compassion, self-discipline, teamwork, patience, and friendship.
Interestingly the show will be set during the High Republic era of Star Wars, so only Yoda will be around, but this will be the first time that we will see some of the characters from the High Republic books and comics in motion.
The second show that was announced is Tales of the Jedi and this is an interesting one, as the show is a series of episodes, 6 in fact, that will focus on two characters from the prequel era, Ahsoka Tano and Count Dooku.
Each character will get three episodes, each showcasing a different point in their path on the force, so for Count Dooku we will get to see him in his final moments as a Jedi, before he leaves the order, but we will also get to see him with his Padawan, a young Qui-Gon Jin, who will be voiced by Liam Neeson’s son, though the actor himself will also be back to voice his role.
The second series of episodes will focus on Ahsoka Tano, including her as a baby, bit while that is going to be a cute visual, creator Dave Filoni has stated that the shows will get dark.
“Are they fun, happy? I don’t know, it gets rough,” Filoni said. “Some of these are dark.” He continued, “I’m picturing the other shorts, and if I chose to show a Dooku short today, I don’t think we’d be talking about all the cute things in Star Wars. I think we’d be talking about something else. It would be like, ‘Oooh, that was rough!’”
There are no release dates for either of the new shows yet, but once they are given we will share them here.
