MLB The Show 21 has been announced and is coming to both PlayStation and Xbox
San Diego Studio have announced MLB The Show 21, the latest entry in their long running and very well received baseball series, but this year, apart from the PlayStation 5 getting in on the action, they have announced that the Xbox platform is also getting a chance to steal home.
You might remember that it was announced that the series was going multiplatform and while Nintendo also retweeted that announcement, as of today, there are only versions coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.
Ramone Russell, Product Development Communications at San Diego Studio took to both the PlayStation Blog and the Xbox Wire to reveal details and the one that is most important is that the series will offer cross-play, meaning your team can take on a team on any other platform.
Another highlight is that progression carries across from version to version, so you won’t have to start over if you move consoles, but there is a downside.
There is no free next-gen upgrade path, so if you start on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One and you get a new console, you will need to buy the game again, in order to enjoy the best that the next gen systems have to offer. By the same token, if you buy the next gen versions, they won’t work in the previous generations, so you need to ensure you buy wisely.
Of course for every rule there is an exception and you get can get a free upgrade to the next gen version, if you buy the collectors edition, which will be revealed later in the week.
The game is set to release on April 20, so a few months still to go, but I am interested to see what happened to the that Nintendo version of the game.
