Gears of War: E-Day takes the series back in time with an all-new prequel

It has been years since we had a new Gears of War, back then they called it Gears 5, but now the series has its full name back and is going back in time with a story set on Emergence Day, check out the cinematic reveal of the game.

The game will follow younger versions of the series’ original heroes, Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago, as they begin their fight against the Locust invasion. This is also the second prequel for the series, as Gears of War: Judgement was also telling those stories from that day, but that was focused more on Baird and his team.

It’s going to feel like a new Gears game, because that’s what it is. It’s us revisiting the tone and the feeling of what makes Gears great, but we’re tapping into new techniques, new processes, and new technology that’s going to make the gameplay feel better than ever. It’s going to be awesome, a game that feels both truly new, and authentically Gears.

As the story is set 14 years before the original game, there is a lot of ground to cover between E-Day and 1, so how much the team are going to tell here is going to be crucial, as it could open an all-new saga. There are of course the 5 mainline games, and their DLCs and the spin-off titles Judgement and Tactics, both are very different. There are also 8 books, multiple comic book series and if it is still happening the Netflix movie.

There is no release date for the game, however the studio hasn’t had anything new out since 2019’s Gears 5, its possible that we are going to have to wait a while.
