Gears of War E-Day adds another cog to its development team

It has been announced that The Coalition will be making the new Gears of War E-Day with support from People Can Fly, who developed Gears of War: Judgement back in the day.

The studio didn’t just make the Judgement game, they also supported work with Epic Games on the first three games as well, so technically speaking the studio has made more Gears of Wars games than The Coalition has. Right now the only thing we have for the game is the trailer below.

This is not the first time People Can Fly and Xbox have teamed up, the studio has a project in the works currently known as Project Maverick, which was announced some time ago. It could be that Project Maverick was this work, but if that was the case, I would have expected that to be confirmed when the game was first announced, as such this is likely a new deal and not connected to the existing one.

This is also an interesting development, as it is now the fifth major game to be announced as getting a co-developer and the fourth for Microsoft. Fable is being developed by Playground Games with co-dev work by Eidos Montreal, Perfect Dark is being developed by The Initiative with co-dev work by Crystal Dynamics and Clockwork Revolution is being developed by inXile Entertainment with co-dev work done by Shapeshifter Games, who is formed out of the ashes of Volition.

Returning to collaborate on the next chapter of this legendary saga is both a privilege and an exciting opportunity to build upon the intense, visceral action and rich storytelling that fans have come to love. We are deeply grateful for our partners’ trust and support on this journey
— Sebastian Wojciechowski, CEO of People Can Fly
Gears of War: E-Day is not just our next major game; it’s a return to what makes Gears of War games special and authentic. We’re pleased to be partnering with the talented folks at People Can Fly who have been a part of our franchise’s legacy for so long.
— Mike Crump, Studio Head, The Coalition
Our team at People Can Fly, made up of dedicated Gears of War fans, is pouring everything we have into creating an experience that will exceed expectations. While we can’t share more just yet, we’re eager for the day when we can show all the exciting things we’ve been working on
— Guillaume Barry, Development Director at People Can Fly

There is no release date for the game at this time, but 2026 is most likely, so for now we wait.
