Games of June 2020

Can you believe that June is here, that means we are almost halfway done for 2020, which is mental. While the year has certainly been challenging for a number of reasons, the gaming has only been getting better and better.

This month will see a new shooter from Riot Games, all the games from Nintendo and a much demanded sequel from PlayStation, but there is still more to enjoy. So without delay, here are the bigger games to look forward to this month.

This one is perhaps the biggest unknown, the team shooter genre has expanded over the past few years, with countless folks stepping up, but Riot, which are known for their competitive multiplayer games, think they now have what it takes.

The response from the beta period was great, but the question remains, can they keep that up going forward? Of course, given that it is Riot and they are perhaps the undisputed masters in online multiplayer space, with League of Legends entering its 11th year this October, there is little cause for concern. But as with anything that has multiplayer at its core, if the players don’t stick around, it could quickly find itself disappearing, but I doubt that will happen here.

Ah Nintendo, sometimes we get nothing from there for a while, then we get everything and in the case of 51 Worldwide Games, we are getting all the games. Of course, I don’t mean every single game ever, but a good portion of them from Blackjack to Billiard, Mancala to Mahjong and beyond there is a lot to find here.

The games vary in length and complexity though, some are quite basic and with single player, two and more, there are plenty of combinations for game night. Some games can be played with the touch screen, others a normal controller and some support motion controls, so no matter what you are looking for, you should find it here.

The Command and Conquer series is one that many people love and we are not counting that weird mobile game, but when Electronic Arts shuttered Westwood Studios, many thought the series was done. Turns out most of the folks from there, went and started their own studio, making RTS games and when it was announced that the original titles were getting remastered, EA went and got them to do it.

While a remastered collection, you will be able to swap back and forth between the new visuals and the classic look, there will also be a host of bonus content, like footage of the cutscenes and more. Plus with mod support out of the box, there is no telling what content will come down the line.

While already released back in 2019 for other platforms, The Outer Worlds on Switch has seen things take a different path, originally it was meant to release back in March, but a delay due to global concerns, saw it move to a June release.

Now though, the release is happening and that means players will be able to unfreeze themselves and explore the outer regions of space, complete with the lawlessness and corporate nepotism that the old west was known for. The game will offer up some exclusive features, like motion controls and such, but other than that, it is a feature complete port

The latest entry in the Desperados series, it also comes 13 years after the last entry in the series and 14 years after the last numbered title. It also has a new developer and a new publisher, about the only thing it has in common with the other entries, is the name and setting.

But, with all that has changed, the game is still aiming to release a stealth based tactics game, with a core cast of characters that you will get to know over the course of the game. Technically a prequel to the original 2001 release, the game is also a reboot of the series, adding in a host of gaming mechanics, to make things more fun for new players. It is also the first time the series has hit consoles, so that will be interesting to see.

When you are one of the folks that created Halo, you get a free pass on your next title, but after years working at Bungie, he left to form a new studio and V1 Productions first effort is Disintegration. Here you take on the role of Romer Shoal, leading the fight against the Rayonne forces, which are bent on destroying humankind.

A mix between a shooter and a RTS, you take to the skies in a Gravcycle, commanding the members of your squad, whilst you assist from above. The game is sporting a new single player story, but will also feature frenetic PvP multiplayer that will allow 10 players to team up and fight. There has been a small push of content lately on this one, but so far, most of it has been flying under the radar.

Take me down to Paradise City, again, because after being released for other platforms two years back, it is finally time for the Switch to get a shot, making this the first Burnout game on a Nintendo platform since Burnout Legends on the DS, back in 2005. At this point there should be little left to say about the game, but just incase here it is.

The game is the standard Burnout racing action, set in an open world, complete with jumps, stunts and more. As this is the big release, all the DLC is included, from famous movie cars, to an entirely new island, there is a lot packed in.

The biggest game of the month is for sure going to be The Last of Us Part II and rather than playing as Joel, the game switches focus to Ellie and her quest for revenge. In order to avoid any spoilers, that is all I will say about that.

The gameplay seems to be a more evolved version of what we got in the first game, but there seems to be some new elements mixed in. If you are in a big need to learn more, you can watch the State of Play presentation for the game, though, with how little time there is left between now and the games release date, you can always wait as well.

The only game on the list appearing on all the platforms at once, SpongeBob SquarePants is now a household name, with a show that has been airing for over 20 years now. In that time, there have been countless games as well, some have been bad, others amazing and this is a remaster of one of the best.

Players will take on the role of SpongeBob, Patrick and Sandy, as they attempt to stop an army of evil robots from coming in and destroying Bikini Bottom. The game will feature content that was cut from the original release, as well as some new multiplayer modes, making this one packed game.

Perhaps the one game on the list that will be the most divided, a free to play online action game, that combines ninja moves and gum, Ninjala is something unique. The game features melee combat, with players able to jump around, run up walls and fight using a combination of weapons and special abilities.

As you play, drones will appear on the map and the more you take down, the more powerful your weapons will become for that match. As Ninja though, you can also disguise yourself as items on the map and the person with the most points at the end, will be declared the winner.

There you have it, the games coming in June 2020, that you should take a look at, but as always, they are not the only ones. There is the console release of Greymoor, the latest expansion for The Elder Scrolls Online, Ys: Memories of Celceta is making the jump to PlayStation 4 from PSP and Samurai Shodown is coming to PC after doing the console rounds.

Are there any games that you are looking forward to this month?
