The Games of March 2021
March is here and you might not realise it, but there are a lot of games out this month, some of them are new, some are ports to other platforms, but all look like they will offer a good time.
Yakuza: Like a Dragon
March 2 - PlayStation 5
There isn’t much to say on this one, the game is hitting PlayStation 5, having been released since November of 2020 for Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC and PlayStation 4, in fact you can read our review of the game here.
Sea of Solitude: Director's Cut
march 4 - switch
Having released onto all the other platforms a few years back, seeing Sea of Solitude make its way to Switch is not unusual, just intriguing as the game has reworked some parts, added all new voice work and more. In our review, we called out some of issues that the Director’s Cut seems to be addressing.
Harvest Moon: One World
March 5 - switch
The Harvest Moon is the granddaddy of farming games, starting out way back on the Super Nintendo and while recent entries in the series may have fallen short of what fans were after, Natsume look to be on the right track with this one.
Apex Legends
march 10 - switch
It is Apex Legends, but on Switch. Oh you wanted more, well there really isn’t anything new, the game is still the same battle royale, the characters are all there and the guns, plus Switch gamers get some bonus rewards for playing in the opening weeks.
Stronghold: Warlords
march 10 - Pc
The game has been delayed a number of times, most recently it slipped a few weeks before it its January 2021 release, due to the multiplayer not be up to scratch and as the developers wanted to ensure that was working out of the game, they pushed it back, here is hoping this time it actually sticks to the planned date.
Monster Energy Supercross: The Official Videogame 4
march 11 - PC, PlayStation 5, xbox series x|S, playstation 4 and xbox one
It is bike racing in mud, again. This year will see the game rework the career mode, letting you experience every aspect of it. The game is also coming to the next gen systems for the first time, which should give some of the best looking mud ever seen in a videogame, along with faster load times, 4K visuals and the other assorted next gen highlights.
Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time
march 12 - switch, playstation 5, xbox series x|s
It is about time that Activision brought the game to Switch, most assumed it would be coming, it has been their routine with the portable platform, but confirmation is nice. While Switch will let you whump anywhere, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S will get boosted visuals, faster load times and more, in fact they just highlighted what PlayStation 5 owners can expect.
Marvel's Avengers
march 18 - playstation 5 and xbox series x|s
After launching last year on the last gen systems, the full next gen update for Marvel’s Avengers, made by Square Enix’s Crystal Dynamics, is coming this month. While a speed boost is nice, there is a lot more content to discover, as it will also be the launch day for Hawkeye into the game, which also hits the other platforms on the same day.
Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville
march 19 - switch
Get ready to soil yourself as the battle is leaving the tied down consoles and going portable. This is the same game that hit other platforms back in late 2019, but with the added advantage of having all the content included, and all of it is accessible, just by playing the game.
Overcooked! All You Can Eat
march 23 - switch, pc, playstation 4 and xbox one
While this unique version of the game launched with the next gen systems last year, some folks were upset. The game not only features all the content from the two released games, it also had exclusive chefs, like The Swedish Chef from the Muppets, but more importantly, it also offered up a wealth of accessibility options, which were missing from the base games.
Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town
march 23 - switch
Seems that there is farm-off this month, as Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town is also coming to Switch and while the core concept for the game is very similar to Harvest Moon, they go about it in very different ways. You will have to build almost everything up, including the clearing of land, in order to even start planting, this is going to be a game like no other in the series.
Tales from the Borderlands
march 24 - switch
2K can be sneaky at times, they released Tales from the Borderlands onto consoles and PC stores again last month, without any warning and then when folks were asking, why not Switch, it was revealed only a few days later in the Nintendo Direct. With Rhys and Fiona leading the charge, this is a story filled with humour, danger, explosions and a little bit of muscle and unlike the original release, all the episodes are here in one package.
Yakuza 6: The Song of Life
march 25 - xbox one and pc
While the trailer below says PlayStation, this is the first time that Yakuza 6 is hitting PC and Xbox, completing the release of the series on both platforms. Xbox players are also doubly lucky as the game is also coming to Xbox Game Pass on the same day, with all but Like A Dragon in it, you can experience hundreds of hours of mafia related hijinks and karaoke, for a small price.
Balan Wonderworld
march 26 - pc, playstation 4, xbox one, switch, playstation 5 and xbox series x|S
Balan Wonderworld is the next game from the creator of Sonic the Hedgehog, though it has more inspiration from Nights, you are either Leo or Emma and you will follow the Maestro through a handful of colourful and musical worlds, complete with dozens of costumes and more, in order to get to the heart of the story. For those keen to sample the game, a demo is out for all platforms.
It Takes Two
march 26 - pc, playstation 4, xbox one, playstation 5 and xbox series x|S
When a relationship begins to fail, some take steps to save it and others get turned into dolls by their daughter, in the hopes that they will fix things on their own. Part rom-com, part two player co-op, the game is all about working together, taking part in a continuous stream of challenges and new gameplay mechanics, to restore what once was and hopefully save the marriage.
Monster Hunter Rise
march 26 - switch
Monster Hunter has been a long running series that has over the years, started to gather more followers outside of Japan and Monster Hunter Rise aims to take that number even higher. This is also the first completely new title developed for a home Nintendo console, with the previous Switch game and the Wii U before, being ports of the 3DS. Part solo experience, part multiplayer fun and fully dependent on your life not getting in the way, Rise looks to have dozens of hours of play to experience, no matter where you are.
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2
march 26 - Playstation 5 and xbox series x|S
Ollie Up! Many hoped that Tony Hawk and friends would kickflip onto next gen and it was revealed just last week, after perhaps the most odd Twitter talk ever. With 4K visuals. faster load times and more, the gameplay should feel smoother than ever, which is saying something, though if you already own the game, upgrading it, is going to be confusing. All deluxe disc and digital owners are fine, but if you have the standard release on disc, on Xbox, you don’t get a free upgrade, but all other versions on consoles do.
Evil Genius 2: World Domination
march 30 - Pc
Rebellion have been working on this game for a number of years and it is finally time to unleash your evil laugh, as Evil Genius 2 is about to reveal itself to the world. Part world domination game, part casino owner and all parts evil, you will have to balance your expansion of your plans, whilst ensuring spies to do infiltrate your base and stop you, can you say ‘Sharks with laser beams attached to their head?’
March has a lot of games and while some are clearly next gen upgrades, or ports to Switch, there are a handful of new titles to get excited for. Of course there are also games like Narita Boy, Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning and more to come.
What games did we not include that are coming, that have you excited?
