EA's Origin app is closing down in April for PC and Mac users

Electronic Arts have announced that their app, Origin, will close down on April 17 for both PC and Mac. The news was revealed that due to both Microsoft and Apple no longer supporting 32bit operating systems, the app is redundant and the newer EA App will be the go to space for games.

There are support pages for both PC and for Mac users, but the basics are as follows.

  • Downloading and installing the EA App, then signing in with your existing credentials will see all your games available in the new app.

  • If a game supports cloud saves, they will transfer over to the new app without you needing to do anything. Older games that do no support those, will need to have their saves manually moved.

  • Mods made for games may not move and may not be supported if they do, users will need to check with the mod creator for further assistance.

The move as said above, is just due to the operating systems no longer supporting 32bit, Steam did something similar many years ago, but that app just added support for the newer 64bit style.
