What Are Ubisoft Working On… A Look At Their Studios
Ubisoft are one of the biggest game makers in the world, they often find themselves working on new tech long before many others do, but sometimes they do overreach.
That overreach did lead to around 400 jobs being let go across the year, with 3/4 of them coming at the end of the year when XDefiant was cancelled, which resulted in two studio closures and lay offs in the Sydney office.
Studios Closed:
Ubisoft San Francisco
Ubisoft Osaka
These are the games that Ubisoft published in 2024, those with bolded titles are original releases:
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
Skull and Bones
XDefiant*
Beyond Good & Evil: 20th Anniversary Edition
Star Wars Outlaws
Just Dance 2025 Edition
*This game has been shut down, which means that it will be offline very soon.
So that was their 2024, but what about 2025? Let us take a look.
1492 STUDIO
Last Game Released: Is It Love? Scandals | Series: Is It Love series
For the third year in a row, this studio is MIA. Last year we pointed out that neither their site, their socials or even their LinkedIn show any signs of life and you know what, 12 months later and nothing has changed.
BLUE MAMMOTH GAMES
Last Game Released: Brawlhalla | Series: None
Like last year and the year before and the year before, Blue Mammoth Games kept the updates for Brawlhalla coming. 2024 saw a few crossover events in Star Wars, Borderlands and Mega Man. The Star Wars had two waves, with the second being smuggler themed with Kay Vess even making an appearance.
2025 will keep updates and content coming for the game, but it will also see the game celebrate 10 years of it on the eSports scene. You can see the roadmap for that below, which means you should expect to see this studios name a lot over the next 12 months.
GREEN PANDA GAMES
Last Game Released: Idle Space Station | Series: Many
Across 2024, this group kept updating their existing games and even already starting to do so in 2025. There is little chance of anything new from them, there are no open roles, no hints of new games.
KETCHAPP
Last Game Released: Rider Worlds | Series: Many
The end of 2023 saw the studio release Rider Worlds and since then, they have just kept updating it and their various other games. They ended 2024 by releasing an Assassin’s Creed themed bike to the game, which followed on from a Hungry Shark bike.
Given their updates in 2024 to their various games, I would expect them to just keep their games updated, but they could surprise us.
KOLIBRI GAMES
Last Game Released: Idle Bank Tycoon: Money Game | Series: Idle Tycoon series
2024 was another quiet year for this group, they just kept updating their existing games, and I can not find anything that suggests that this year will be any different. The problem is, as always, as a mobile developer they won’t show anything until the game is ready to release, so we just have to wait.
MASSIVE ENTERTAINMENT
Last Game Released: Star Wars Outlaws | Series: The Division series, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
2024 was a big year for Massive Entertainment, as they not only released two big DLCs for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, they also saw the release of Star Wars Outlaws and the first of its two announced DLCs. So beyond that we know that another DLC for Star Wars Outlaws is coming, with A Pirate’s Fortune arriving sometime this Autumn.
But what about outside of Star Wars? Well we know the studio is working on Tom Clancy’s The Division 3, but it appears that is not all they have cooking. The studios various open roles, including some for The Division 3, but beyond that they have multiple jobs for “Unannounced Project”. What this job is, there is no way of knowing with the only discernible detail I could find is that it requires experience on Xbox and PlayStation. While they do have a job open for Avatar, it is unlikely that series is getting any more content, though they do call it a live game, so who knows. The future is looking bright for the studio and we shall likely here from them throughout 2025.
OWLIENT
Last Game Released: Howrse | Series: Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad
Last year I said that this studio hadn’t made any updates to their site or socials, but it seems that I forgot to check Facebook, as they have been active there, almost daily, but that is it. Given their one game is almost 15 years old and shows no signs of stopping, I would not think this studio is going to do anything else.
RED STORM ENTERTAINMENT
Last Game Released: Assassin's Creed Nexus VR | Series: Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six series, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon series, Star Trek: Bridge Crew
After the incredible Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR release in 2023, it looked like Red Storm would have back to back hits as The Division Heartland was expected to release in late 2024, but in May 2024, Ubisoft cancelled the game. Sadly the rest of the year didn’t shake out that well for the studio either, as they were also supporting XDefiant and with that games cancellation, there is not a lot going on for the studio.
As for their 2025 plans, I have no idea. The studio has done original development on a number of games, but also supported other games. The studio does have a lot of VR titles in their history, so they could have something happening there, but I feel that the VR space is winding down. The studio was also founded by Tom Clancy and they have a pedigree in creating games under that umbrella. I would love to see the studio getting the chance to make a proper Rainbow Six game again, or perhaps something new in the Tom Clancy gaming-verse. Sadly with their various project cancellations in 2024, we just don’t know what they are doing next.
All the following studios are officially called ‘Ubisoft Location’, so in order to keep it simple, we will just use the location name for them. In years past we have done this list alphabetically, you know A-Z, but just for something different, this year we are going Z-A.
TORONTO
Last Game Released: Far Cry 6 | Series: Watch_Dogs series, Far Cry series, Starlink Battle for Atlas
The Toronto branch of Ubisoft kicked their gaming line up off with Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist and after that they bounced between supporting other Ubisoft studios and creating their own original work. 2024 saw the studio assist with both Star Wars Outlaws and XDefiant. It was announced in June 2024 that the studio would also assist the Montreal studio with development on the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
What does 2025 hold for the studio, who knows, the only game that we know they were announced to be creating was the remake of Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell, but that was announced a little over 3 years ago and there has not been anything on it since. The studio is also assisting with the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, but to what degree we do not know. With no open roles at the studio, there is no telling what they are working on, but I really hope its Splinter Cell.
STOCKHOLM
Last Game Released: None | Series: None
This studio is a little different, as for the past few years they have been working on a thing called Scalar. In the most basic terms, this is a way for games to be made using cloud based technologies, namely letting cloud processes run in parallel, as opposed to singularly on a device. You can learn more about it here.
The technology has been created and now the studio is using it to create a new game, which has been described as a new ip as well. From what I could find the game will be mostly open world in nature, with some multiplayer elements, but that really doesn’t narrow things down. Given the studio has supported Massive in the past with their games, open world shooter makes sense, but we will need to wait for it to leak or be officially announced.
SOFIA
Last Game Released: Assassin's Creed Mirage | Series: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla DLC
After bringing Assassin’s Creed Mirage to players in 2023, the Sofia studio did the same again in 2024, but rather they brought the game to iOS devices. Between all that, the studio has been supporting the development with Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Given that they just shipped a game a little over a year ago and their support work, I doubt we will see anything more from this group in 2025.
SINGAPORE
Last Game Released: Skull and Bones | Series: Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Phantoms
Officially revealed back in 2017, 2024 was the year that Skull and Bones finally set sail, giving players a chance to conquer the high seas. Post its launch the game got a few seasons of content, with season 4 weighing anchor in November 2024. But that was not all the studio did last year, they also provided support to Star Wars Outlaws.
So what about 2025? The studio has a few open roles, but none of them point to anything new. There is a good chance that Skull and Bones will continue to get new content across the year, with content already being added to the game. Beyond that, I expect we will see their name in the credits of a few games as they do support other studios, but as for them being the lead on a new game, I doubt that will happen again for a while.
SAN FRANCISCO
Last Game Released: Rocksmith+ | Series: Rocksmith series
After being the lead studio on XDefiant, with the games cancellation late last year, the studio was announced as closing as well. As such this will be the last time that the group is included in the list. There is no word on the status of Rocksmith+
SAGUENAY
Last Game Released: None | Series: None
Known mostly as a support studio, Saguenay has a game of their own on the way with NFL Primetime Fantasy coming to mobile devices, pre-registrations are open now, there is no date for the full release at this time. Across 2024, the studio also supported XDefiant, but we all know how that turned out.
With the studio working on NFL Primetime Fantasy, they will keep on that for now, but beyond that, I would not expect to see their name on anything else.
REFLECTIONS
Last Game Released: The Settles: New Allies | Series: Driver series
The last time that Reflections were able to release their own game was back in 2017 and since thent he studio has take on co-dev work for other games. The studios recent works were Starlink: Battle for Atlas, The Settles: History Edition and more recently Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Their last effort was the console versions of The Settlers: New Allies, but that just shows they really don’t have their own brand anymore.
The studio celebrated 40 years of age at the end of 2024 and that is quite the milestone, but I just wish they were able to do more original content. The Driver series especially has been without a game since 2011, so I would love to see that return, but I doubt it will. They have no open roles right now, but there are a lot of folks who have flagged they are working on a AAA game, with some even stating a multiplayer game is in the works. These listings were not present last year, so maybe they are being given a chance to lead once more.
REDLYNX
Last Game Released: Gwen’s Getaway | Series: Trials series
2024 saw the Redlynx team assist with two games, Star Wars Outlaws and NFL Primetime Fantasy. They have also been working on Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege Mobile, alongside other studios, but they have not been working on a new Trials game.
The studio is working on at least one new mobile games, as well as supporting Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 with its post launch content. They also have the a few unannounced games in the works, but there is a fair chance those are the mobile games, whatever they are. The studio has no open roles, so it seems they are good on what they are working on right now, so we will just have to wait to see what it is. Will one of these new games be their chance to lead a game again, I hope so.
QUEBEC
Last Game Released: Immortals Fenyx Rising | Series: Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Assassin's Creed Syndicate, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Critical Hour
The Quebec studio is where Assassin’s Creed Shadows is being lead from, with them working on that until the games March 20 release date, I would not expect anything else from the team.
PUNE
One of the few dedicated support studios, Pune assists with all manner of game development. At one stage they were going to be the lead on the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake, before they lost that, they are still supporting it though. Right now, they are the only studio from the three that were supporting Rocksmith+ still around, so there is a good bet that they will take control of that for now, beyond that though, we don’t know what they are up to.
PHILIPPINES
A sister studio to the Singapore location, they tend to support whatever is going on there, as such they don’t make things on their own. Right now they are assisting with Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Skull and Bones as their priorities, but who knows what the future holds. The studio has a number of open roles they are looking to fill and none of them indicate anything new is happening.
PARIS MOBILE
Last Game Released: Mighty Quest Rogue Palace | Series: Mighty Quest for Epic Loot, Might and Magic : Chess Royale
Throughout 2024 and before that, the Paris Mobile team have been helping create The Division: Resurgence, a mobile take on The Division series. The game entered into a series of closed beta tests in 2023 and 2024, so is a release likely in 2025? Honestly I would say yes, with the years of testing behind them, plus the game being pushed into the 2026 FY, which ends on March 31st, 2026, I would wager they are aiming to release it soon, just exactly when is the question.
PARIS
Last Game Released: Just Dance 2025 Edition | Series: Just Dance series, Ghost Recon series
The house of the party, because Just Dance busted a groove here and has now for 15 years, yep it is that old. The studio was also where the recent Ghost Recon games were created, though the second one was not as well received as the first. 2024 saw the group take the lead on Just Dance 2025 and Just Dance VR, but they also supported the release of Star Wars Outlaws and Skull and Bones.
As for 2025, well it is possible that we will get an update on Beyond Good and Evil 2, but it is also possible I will win the lottery, both however are very unlikely. The studio has a lot of open roles, but most are general listings. There is one however where it specifies that the job is for an unannounced project, maybe a new Ghost Recon, or perhaps something else. We will see their name throughout the year as Just Dance keeps the dance floor hopping, the question is if they will have more to offer.
OSAKA
Last Game Released: Rocksmith+ | Series: South Park: The Fractured But Whole
The other studio that did the development on XDefiant, was also closed at the end of 2024. As such this will be the last time that we see this group in the list.
ODESA
A much smaller team than we have seen from Ubisoft, they support other studios in the Ukraine region and provide quality assurance where needed, as such they don’t have any games in development.
NADEO
Last Game Released: Trackmania | Series: Trackmania series
Just like our piece last year, Nadeo has kept the content for Trackmania coming, even going so far as to kick off another season right as 2025 began. 2024 saw the studio add Formula e back to the game, and along with all the other content they added, shows that the series has no signs of slowing down. Apart from the game possibly making the jump to Switch 2 later in the year, expect to see this groups name just around their content and esports for Trackmania.
MUMBAI
Mostly a QA studio, it is unlikely the team will have their own game in 2025, but we should still see their name in the credits of a few releases.
MONTREAL
Last Game Released: Roller Champions | Series: Assassin’s Creed series, Rainbow Six series
For the longest time, the Montreal branch of Ubisoft could not go a year without releasing a game or two, but then in 2022 they released Roller Champions and we have not seen a new game from them since. That does not mean that they have not been busy, they are the biggest studio for Ubisoft and one of the largest period, with almost 4000 staff across the multiple locations in the city.
The problem the studio has, is we know they are working on the next Assassin’s Creed, currently known as Hexe and that they restarted development on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake last year, but with a 2026 date, it will be a wait for that one. Between that we know they are still supporting the fake Rainbow Six game in Siege, developing the mobile version of it, along with creating content for For Honor, which is about to enter its 9th year. If that was not enough, they are keeping the servers up for Roller Champions, but there has been nothing on the games socials for a while now, so it might be dead.
MONTPELLIER
Last Game Released: Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown | Series: Rayman series, Rabbids series
2024 kicked off in a big way for the Montpellier studio, as they released Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown and they released a number of updates for the game across the year. The studio also took home a few awards for the game, it was quite popular. Which is why it was sad to hear that the game didn’t sell what Ubisoft were hoping for and as such Ubisoft disbanded the team.
So what does the studio have in store for 2025? No matter what the plans are, unless its a release date or even better a release of Beyond Good and Evil 2, no one will care. It might have been good news if the studio was already working on a Lost Crown sequel, but with that not happening, no one will care about anything else now. They have a few open roles, some of them flagged as for Beyond Good and Evil 2, and given some are senior roles, a release is not likely. The game has been in development for more than a decade and apart from two trailers, we have not seen anything and the last time we did was 2018. For this game Ubisoft, it is time to put up or shut up.
MILAN
Last Game Released: Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope | Series: Mario + Rabbids series
The past few years have seen the Milan studio support other groups with games, like Massive’s two titles Avatar and Star Wars. This year will mark the 3rd anniversary since Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope released and while the game got content throughout 2023, that means the studio has been done with it for a while.
2024 did see a big change for the studio as a number of staff, David Soliani included, left. Many of them have reformed as Day 4 Night, a new studio, but that also means that the Milan team is a little less without them there. The studio has a few open roles, but they appear to be more general applications than for any specific project, so for now we will need to wait to see if this group is allowed to design something new, or if support is what they are stuck on for now.
MAINZ
Last Game Released: Anno 1800 Console Edition | Series: Anno series
It has been a few years since the Mainz group released a game of their own, 2019 in fact, but the studio has not been quiet. While they have been supporting the development of Beyond Good and Evil 2, the studio is also working on Anno 117: Pax Romana.
The game was announced in June 2024 and is expected to release in 2025 for PC and select consoles, but there is no firm date for it yet. The studio confirmed in December that Anno 117: Pax Romana would be coming in 2025 and would also be a day 1 release on Steam, you can read their full update here, and while the update confirms things are moving ahead, it did not hint at when we might hear from them again. For now the studio is working away, but with the release expected this year, it would not surprise me that we see their name a lot this year.
LEAMINGTON
At the start of 2024, this group had a lot of open roles for a new ip, but since then they have been filled and they have none open to kick off 2025. Since joining Ubisoft in 2017, they have been relegated to being a support studio for other games like Starlink: Battle for Atlas, Rainbow Six Siege and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
The studio has revealed that they have an unannounced title in development, but all I could find about the game is that it will have some form of economy within it. Given the studios work on the Avatar game and its DLC’s, it is unlikely we will see whatever this mystery game is for a while, but that is ok as I would rather they just be allowed to cook and we see what it is, when it is ready.
KYIV
The Kyiv studio for Ubisoft has often been a support studio for Assassin’s Creed titles, with them also supporting the upcoming Shadows, but in 2024 I found multiple listings that they were supporting Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege Mobile.
But that was then and this is now and while there are reports of them still assisting on that mobile game, I have found multiple listings for some new unannounced game as well. Sadly though, apart form it having UI elements, I haven’t been able to locate any other details about the title, but given the studio has usually been support and QA, it is nice to see they might be given the chance to lead something new.
IVORY TOWER
Last Game Released: The Crew Motorfest | Series: The Crew series
It would be easy to just say that Ivory Tower is again going to just create more content for The Crew: Motorfest, which is true, as Season 5 just kicked off a few months ago and brought with it an all-new island.
But there is something new brewing there, the group have one open role that is marked as for an unannounced project. While it is focused on AI, the traditional kind that is, there is nothing else in it to indicate what it might be for. With the studio known to support their games for quite a while, it is unlikely that whatever this new project is, will be seen anytime soon.
HALIFAX
Last Game Released: Assassin’s Creed Rebellion | Series: None
The studio has been supporting Assassin’s Creed Rebellion for a while now, but they are also assisting with the creation of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege Mobile. I have found nothing else to indicate that the studio has anything more else going on, with no open roles either. So for now their name will just be in the background on the two games they have.
DÜSSELDORF
Last Game Released: The Settlers: New Allies | Series: ANNO series, The Settlers series
The studio spent 2024 supporting the DLC for Avatar, their own game The Settlers and more Rainbow Six Siege content and they are still reported to be working on Beyond Good and Evil 2.
While the studio has some open roles, there is nothing in them to hint at what might be next, but the studio does have a number of folks stating that they are working on an unannounced project. With the studios last main release in 2023, it might be a little soon to see whatever is next from them, but as they support other groups, expect to see their name across 2025.
DA NANG
Last Game Released: Rabbids: Legends of the Multiverse | Series: Many
Previously known for Nano, web-based free to play takes on Ubisoft games, the Da Nang group changed that up in June 2024 when they released Rabbids: Legends of the Multiverse for Apple Arcade. While that is good news, as of the time of writing the Nano website, appears to be dead. The page loads up, but all it lets you do is navigate to a non-Ubisoft page and play really poorly made games, none of which are Ubisoft branded. Even stranger is that I can not find a single mention as to what is going on, it is like Ubisoft just gave up on Nano.
The studio is looking to fill a number of roles, but there is no indication of what they are for, so for now this is one group that might have a quiet year.
China Studios
Locations: Chengdu, China | Shanghai, China
What was formally known as two studios, they have been brought together under the new China Studios name, but they still do their own things. The Shanghai studio is known to support Paris with Just Dance creation, whereas Chengdu is more of a general support studio.
Right now, Shanghai has a number of open roles, a few are for Just Dance, a few for something known as ‘Casual Party Game’ and the rest are generic, though a few mention a new AAA game. As for Chengdu, they have a number of open roles for Rainbow Six, which matches with their Siege support in the past, they also have some for For Honor and Assassin’s Creed. What is interesting are the large number of jobs for a game branded ‘Unannounced Tactical Shooter’ and the only thing I could find from them is that they are after people with experience making games for consoles, so take from that what you will. Personally I want new Ghost Recon, but that is me. The studio was also reported to have around 7 projects in the works, all at various stages, so this mystery tactical game could be one of those, we just don’t know. Given both studios supporting nature, I would expect to see their names a lot across the year.
BUCHAREST
Another year of work supporting other studios, the Bucharest group helped bring Star Wars Outlaws to players, as well as keeping content coming for Tom Clancy’s The Division 2. The studio has a few open roles, the only ones tied to a specific game are for The Division 2, which lines up with their supporting nature.
Given that they don’t take the lead on things, we will see their name a bit across 2025, just on what is yet to be seen.
BORDEAUX
Last Game Released: Assassin's Creed Mirage | Series: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla DLC
2024 was a big year for this group, not only did they come off the high of releasing their first game as a lead studio, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, they also brough the game to iOS and Mac. The studio also combined its two locations into one major new location, which means that this new facility will bring La Forge, their R&D arm and Tech branch, their online services facility together for the first time.
The studio is also still supporting development for Beyond Good and Evil 2, as well as their early access title BattleCore Arena, but that might be all. Their open roles are small in number and limited in detail, so I can’t see anything new happening from this group, but given their history with Assassin’s Creed, there is a good chance they might be working on Shadows DLC, we just need to wait and see.
BERLIN
The Berlin branch is a co-dev studio, meaning they are always assisting other with titles, including supporting released games like Skull and Bones, and Rainbow Six Siege.
Given they tend to be a support studio and not a lead, a new game from them is unlikely.
BELGRADE
Last Game Released: Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint | Series: Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon DLC, Riders Republic DLC
More of a support studio, the group often assist with development on many titles, like Skull and Bones. The studio assisted with that game and have also been assisting with its seasonal offerings. The studio has no open roles at this time, so its unlikely that they will be doing anything new, but their support work will continue.
BARCELONA MOBILE
Last Game Released: Invincible: Guarding the Globe | Series: Might & Magic: Elemental Guardians, Hungry Dragon
Last year I said that the group would launch Invincible and just a few weeks later they did. Since then they have kept that game and their others going with updates and content, as well as supporting Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege. Given their mobile focused nature, it would not surprise me to see them assisting with the mobile version of that game, but that is not confirmed. For 2025, expect to see their games getting updates, but anything new is unlikely.
BARCELONA
Last Game Released: Star Trek: Bridge Crew | Series: Your Shape
Just like the years before them, 2024 saw the Barcelona group create a lot of content for Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, with Operation Twin Shells being a big one. Given that game seems to have no end in sight, expect this studio to keep creating content for the game.
ANNECY
Last Game Released: Riders Republic | Series: Steep
2024 was a busy year for the Annecy group, as they not only kept people flying down the mountains in Riders Republic, which kicked off its 13th season in December 2024, but they also helped bring Star Wars Outlaws to players.
As for 2025, well expect more content for Riders Republic, the game is doing quite well so I don’t see it closing any time soon. The studio has also been assisting with other games, like Star Wars, so they might pop up in other titles. But the studio also has a few open roles, some of which point to Assassin’s Creed, no specific title and a few for ‘AAA Project’. The sad news for that game is that it appears to be yet another multiplayer shooter, of which Ubisoft already have a number of and have killed off two of them in the past few years, XDefiant and Hyper Scape. Part of me hopes that this is an old listing and that Ubisoft are not stupid enough to try to make another multiplayer shooter, months after killing off one, but hey it is them and they do weird things from time to time.
ABU DHABI
Last Game Released: Clash of Beasts: Tower Defense | Series: Growtopia, NCIS: Hidden Crimes
After a few years of supporting their various games, December 2024 saw Growtopia get a big update in Dungeons. The studio was looking to fill roles at the start of the year, which would likely have been for that update. Given they are a more mobile focused group, until they announce something new we won’t hear from them.
So there we go, Ubisoft and their roughly 4000 staff, with all their projects. There are a lot of studios working on unannounced things, which is slightly insane given that less than 18 months ago, Ubisoft killed off a half dozen projects.
Do you think we got this right? Be sure to let us know what you think Ubisoft will do as well.
