Assassin's Creed Shadows steps into the light this November

Ubisoft have officially unveiled Assassin’s Creed Shadows, revealing that it has two playable protagonists and will release this November. Check out the trailer for it below.

While the familiar Assassin’s Creed gameplay will be delivered here, the game will offer a few new additions to the formula, first up changing seasons. Now Ubisoft say changing seasons like its totally new, but Assassin’s Creed 3 has seasons, so I would imagine that this time they are more real-time, rather than after a cutscene.

The second addition will be the use of light and shadows, see what they did there. With Ubisoft Quebec being the lead studio it makes sense that they would love shadows, as that is where a number of the Splinter Cell games and the pending Remake are from. Given the Ninja associations with the game, shadows should be a welcome addition and will pair perfectly with Naoe.

The games dual protagonists are Naoe and Yasuke, with Naoe being born and bred in Japan, whereas Yasuke was taken from Africa as a slave by the Portuguese.

Naoe is a 17-year-old from Iga, and the daughter of one of the era’s most iconic shinobi, Fujibayashi Nagato, who – despite a promise to keep her safe – is forced to train her to be his equal in battle. The team describes Naoe as ‘determined but compassionate,’ capable of taking down any enemy while showing compassion to victims of war and corruption. With her home province of Iga squarely in the path of Nobunaga’s conquest, she sees first-hand the destruction that war can bring, and vows to use her skills to help her people.

Yasuke is of African origin and when he arrived in Japan enslaved by the Portuguese; he impressed with size, strength, and wits; he served under the Japanese daimyo Oda Nobunaga. There must have been something exceptional about Yasuke to succeed in the service of a personality like Nobunaga’s, the team explains, and the goal has been to expound on this in Assassin’s Creed Shadows through his curiosity, openness, respect for values and tradition, valor, warmth, and charisma.

We have art for both characters below and further down a video that explains a little more on who each character is.

We will have a full breakdown of all the ways you can get the game soon and Ubisoft will reveal the first gameplay in June, likely at Ubisoft Forward, but for now know that the game is coming to PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 on November 15.
