Apple Watch Ultra is bringing the digital watch world into the rougher parts of our great world
Apple have announced, as part of their wave of reveals, the new Apple Watch Ultra. This is an all-new take on the Apple Watch, it is bigger, holds a larger battery, a larger display, an extra button and more.
So you should be able to see it, the biggest change for the Apple Watch Ultra is that it now has a 49mm titanium case and flat sapphire front crystal, providing one of the biggest digital watch displays around. That larger size also provides more space for a larger battery, to which Apple claim will provide users 36 hours off a single charge, at least for regular use.
“Inspired by explorers and athletes from around the world, we created an entirely new category of Apple Watch designed for new and extreme environments — it’s the most rugged and capable Apple Watch yet,” said Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer. “Apple Watch Ultra is a versatile tool that empowers users to push their boundaries with adventure, endurance and exploration.”
With all the new features, which given what it is capable of being subjected too, some new bands were likely required, as some of the basic ones from the older Apple Watch models clearly were not going to cut it. That is why they have designed all new ones, starting with the one made specifically for endurance athletes and runners, the Trail Loop band is the thinnest Apple Watch band to date. The lightweight woven textile is both soft and flexible, allowing it to cinch to the optimal fit, and the convenient tab is designed for quick and easy adjustment.
With explorers in mind, the Alpine Loop band features two integrated layers made from one continuous weaving process that eliminates the need for stitching. The top loops, interspersed with high-strength yarn provide adjustability and a secure attachment for the titanium G-hook fastener.
The Ocean Band is designed specifically for extreme water sports and recreational diving with a titanium buckle and corresponding spring-loaded loop. Molded from a flexible fluoroelastomer, it stretches and utilises the tubular geometry for a secure fit. The Ocean Band also has an optional extra-long tail that allows users to comfortably wear over a wetsuit.
With enhanced GPS, users who like to run, ride, swim or complete all three at once, will be able to get the most precise distance, pace and route data for training and competing. You can also use the enhanced GPS to make use of the Backtrack feature, which creates a path showing where the user has been, which is useful if they get lost or disoriented and need help retracing their steps. If you leave urban zones, the feature can also automatically turn on, so you can always find your way home.
Something that no other Apple Watch has is the inclusion of a third button, the current ones offer a button below the digital crown, but Apple Watch Ultra has more. The Action button can instantly begin workouts and move users to the next interval of a Custom Workout or the next leg of a Multisport workout. It can also be used to mark segments, complementing the new Track running experience, which automatically provides the ultimate pacing and distance estimates for runners at a track.
All of that comes at a price though, as the RRP for this new Apple Watch Ultra is $1,299, so if you want one you had best get to saving as the Apple Watch Ultra will be available next week on the 23rd, with orders available to be placed today.
