What Are Capcom Working On… A Look At Their Studios
Capcom have been on a roll for years now, with titles like Resident Evil 4, Dragon’s Dogman 2 and of course, their collection work for their classic games.
In 2024 they released a few games like the previously mentioned Dragon’s Dogma 2, but here are all the games that Capcom released last year. The titles that are bolded are original releases:
Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy
Dragon's Dogma 2
Monster Hunter Stories
Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess
Ace Attorney Investigations Collection
Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics
Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster
Resident Evil 2
So they had a busy 2024, but what about 2025?
Division 1
Last Game Released: Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess | Series: Resident Evil series, Mega Man series, Dragon’s Dogma
2024 was a busy year for this group as both original releases were done by this group. Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess were their two games and while the latter did ok, the former took the internet by storm.
What is odd about this group is that we don’t know what they have planned for 2025. At the start of the year, there were countless reports that a new Resident Evil game was coming, which duh. But Capcom did confirm at Capcom Next in July 2024 that it was happening and that Koshi Nakanishi would be back to direct. The big question around it will be its viewpoint and characters, given the series more recent original entries had a new character and a first-person point of view. However there is no denying the remakes have done big numbers as well, which were 3rd person games. Capcom have a number of jobs open across their Osaka and Tokyo branches, but nothing in them calls out anything that could be exclusively Resident Evil.
Division 2
Last Game Released: Exoprimal | Series: Monster Hunter series, Street Fighter series, Ace Attorney series
However they do have a job for someone with experience making fighting games, oh but that is for a bit later. This division of Capcom is actually the ones who basically had a big year, just in terms of number of games released. Not only did the group oversee more content for Street Fighter 6, which is still doing well, they also released multiple Ace Attorney collections and brought Monster Hunter Stories to more platforms, giving it a bump from the original 3DS release. 2024 was also the year when Exoprimal saw its last new content released, with the game going into a cycle of content recycling.
Back to that job listing, given the requirements, there is no doubt it is for a fighting game, but is it for Street Fighter or for one of the many other Capcom fighters that they have made. Of course, Capcom have a little game coming out on February 28th called Monster Hunter Wilds, which might do well. They also have another Fighting Collection releasing in the year and unlike the others will hit Xbox at the same time, at least that is the plan. This group is also where Onimusha is managed and after years of nothing, a new entry was announced, but as that one is not out until 2026, there is little chance of us hearing about this for a while longer. The group is going to be focused on Monster Hunter Wilds first, plus like all the DLC that will come after its release, until that is done, don’t expect them to talk about anything else.
CAPCOM MOBILE
Last Game Released: MEGA MAN X DiVE Offline | Series: Mobile ports for Ace Attorney, Street Fighter, Monster Hunter
2024 was a big year for the Mobile arm of Capcom, partly because they put a lot of updates for Monster Hunter Puzzles: Felyne Isles, which is a decent match-3 game. The reason why they had a good time is that they also helped bring more of the recent Resident Evil games it iOS devices, the latest being Resident Evil 2 Remake. Monster Hunter Now from Niantic also got updates across the year, but that is not the Monster Hunter game people wanted.
Thankfully, in November 2024 Monster Hunter Outlanders was announced for mobile devices, which is going to be a more traditional Monster Hunter experience. While Capcom are involved with the game, the bulk of the development will be done by Timi, who also created Call of Duty: Mobile and Pokemon Unite. Given the scope of the game, there is no way that Division 2 and the Mobile teams of Capcom are not involved, but until it releases, we may never know to what extent.
K2 CO., LTD.
Last Game Released: Resident Evil 4 - Separate Ways | Series: Prisoner of Palma series
K2 Co is a support arm of Capcom, meaning they work on many games at once, usually alongside Division 1 and Resident Evil. In fact their last release was the Separate Ways DLC for the Resident Evil 4 Remake.
Given that a new Resident Evil game is on the way, and this group has worked on the last few as well, they will likely be in on that as well. But as they are a support studio, we just won’t know they are involved until either Capcom tell us, or the credits roll.
Swordcanes Studio Co., Ltd.
Last Game Released: None | Series: None
While K2 Co is a support studio, they are sometimes allowed to make things on their own. Swordcanes Studio is a true support studio. In 2024 even though they were fully owned by Capcom, they still helped with titles like Tekken 8 and Jujutsu Kaisen Phantom Parade.
Given their former work for hire nature, there is no telling on what they are working on, until such time as the game is revealed and the credits roll. So there are good odds we will see their name in 2025, but there just no way of knowing on what.
Clovers
Last Game Released: None | Series: None
It might feel a little odd to have this one included, given it was just announced, but it counts for this list. The game is nowhere near ready to release, as the studio was just founded in 2024, but they are working on it. A New Years Message was just released by the studio founder, Kamiya Hideki, which you can read here. For now though, best to keep your hope of a release before the end of 2026 under wraps.
So that is Capcom, which for the first time in a long time, we don’t have a great idea of what the studio has coming, this year. Resident Evil 6, Onimusha and Okami are going to be great, but they are 2026 and later. What do you think about how predictions?
