Try something very new in Chorus: An Adventure Musical
Announced during PAX Australia, by Summerfall Studios co-found David Gaider, Chorus: An Adventure Musical is a whole new genre of game, that blends the stylings of a visual novel, the choices of the RPG and the music of a musical.
The game is being created by a veritable whose who of talent, from the previously mentioned Gaider, who RPG fans might know as the creator of Dragon Age, as well as his work on the Knights of the Old Republic games. Austin Wintory is a video game composer that has gained a lot of attention of late and for great reasons, he has crafted some of the music wonderful scores in modern games, including Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, The Banner Saga series and most recently John Wick Hex.
Speaking of the last one, the villain of the title is played by the talented Troy Baker, who game fans know as Joel from The Last of Us and many more and he is also aboard as the games voice director and oh yeah, he is also a musician of his own. But the star of the debut video is Laura Bailey, who recently starred as Kait Diaz in Gears 5 and the upcoming Avengers game as Black Widow, but who knew she could sing. If backing the game is something you want to do, you can do so on Fig, but watch the video below first, as it will explain the game far better than I could.
David Gaider explains, “Chorus is a labor of love, a project we’re truly passionate about. I’ve been wanting to write a musical for years, and getting to work with the incredible Austin Wintory and Troy Baker to bring Chorus to life has been an experience I’ll never forget. I hope everyone will love the game as much as we do, and help us make it a reality!”
“I’m a big fan of musicals.” Austin Wintory says, “Troy and I had been looking for the right partners to make a musical with and one day, luck led to a chance meeting with Liam. We instantly hit it off and were working on sketches and prototypes almost immediately. My goal from the start wasn’t just a game with musical numbers, but a truly INTERACTIVE musical, where player agency swings the music around with the same sensitivity and precision as in my scores like Journey and ABZU. But because it’s a musical, everything is on the table as a result: the characters, the story, the mood, all of it!”
Troy Baker, too, was intrigued by the ambitious vision. “I’m a huge musical fan too, and to collaborate on a project creating a videogame musical has been fantastic. I can’t wait for everyone to see more!”
