Tiger Woods is joining forces with 2K to work on their PGA Tour series of games

2K have announced that not only have they bought the developer behind PGA Tour 2K21, HB Studios, but they have also signed a deal with golfing great, Shooter McGavin.. no, wait.. Tiger Woods. This is not the first time that Tiger has been connected to golfing video games, with his name appearing on 16 different titles from EA, including the Wii titles that included the excellent Disc Golf

The biggest part of the deal is that he will become the Executive Director and consultant for the PGA Tour 2K series moving forward. It also provides exclusive rights for his appearance in golf games made by 2K during the length of the agreement, which is not publicly known at this point. Say what you will about his off the course life, when he hits the green, he is a golfing machine.

That might be why in his career he has 15 major championship wins; 82 PGA Tour victories; become an 11-time PGA Tour Player of the Year; along with the lowest career scoring average and tied for the most career wins in PGA Tour history.

“I am looking forward to making my return to the video game landscape, and with 2K and HB Studios, I’ve found the right partners to make it happen,” said Tiger Woods in January. “I’m honoured to take part in this opportunity and look forward to sharing my expertise and insights as we build the future of golf video games together.”

“In golf, there is no bigger icon than Tiger Woods. Like the rest of the world, we were saddened to hear of his recent accident, and we wish him a full and smooth recovery,” said David Ismailer, President at 2K. “We have been eager to announce our partnership with Tiger, whose legendary career has transcended the sport. We are thrilled to have him join our PGA TOUR 2K series as an Executive Director.”

The deal is also heading the other way, with 2K partner with Woods’ TGR Foundation, which aims to provide STEM curricula and college-access programs to offer underserved students the tools needed to thrive in school and beyond, at least in the USA.

There is no word on if the deal will impact any potential release this year, but as no game has been announced it is hard to say.
