The race to the bottom has been upgraded with Descenders Next coming in 2025
No More Robots and developer RageSquid have kicked the action into high gear, with the reveal of Descenders Next. This new game takes the concept from the original Descenders and applies it many mountain based sports, like snowboarding. Check out the reveal trailer below.
In the new game, players will master the art of snowboarding on pristine snowy peaks, followed by the rugged thrill of mountainboarding in the highlands. Each sport promises a unique handling experience, challenging players to become adept at every aspect of the game, known as Next.
Descenders Next is set to launch with a robust feature set comparable to its predecessor. It will include comprehensive online multiplayer gameplay, a plethora of tricks and grinds, and a variety of expansive biomes to traverse. As players progress and gain reputation, they will have the opportunity to purchase new boards, gear, helmets, goggles, and more, allowing for extensive customisation of their avatar.
One of the bigger changes to the game this time around is that there is not completely procedurally-generated tracks, but instead will offer up some tightly woven hand crafted options as well as those created by the game. The goal of the team is to create vistas that players will love to explore. It won’t just be about racing to the bottom though, yes sometimes you'll be required to dash down the mountain with your friends as quickly as possible, while other times you'll be aiming to focus on your tricks and perfect landings. Scavenger hunts will see players exploring every inch of the mountain, and unlocking special rewards for those who venture the deepest.
Right now the game has only been given a 2025 release date, but it has been confirmed for PC and Game Pass, the latter likely means Xbox Series X|S and Cloud, but there is no direct confirmation yet.
