The PlayStation 5 is trimming down for the holiday season as it goes Slim
It must be that time in the console cycle already as PlayStation have announced that the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Digital are going slimmer this holiday season.
Prices for the slim models are the same as the current machines:
PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive – $799.95 AUD
PS5 Digital Edition – $679.95 AUD
The new PS5 has been reduced in volume by more than 30%, and weight by 18% and 24% compared to the previous models. There are four separate cover panels, with the top portion in a glossy look, while the bottom remains in matte.
All versions will come with a small little stand, seen under the console below, to allow you to lay it down flat, something that current models to not do.
For those who opt in to buying the digital edition, but then realise they need a disc drive, the new Slim model will allow for an upgrade to install a disc drive, complete with exterior case. The price to buy this later on is $159.95, meaning its more expensive to go digital first and then add the drive on, so something to think about.
The final new piece of hardware is the vertical stand, which is that silver ring above. That is required if you wish to stand your console up, the best news is that the stand will also work on the existing models.
Finally in 2024 the console colours that we have now will be released for the new slim model, exact dates are not known.
