Sega have announced four new Olympic themed video games
Out of left field, but at the same time, not a real surprise, Sega announced on their Japanese Twitter, that they would be releasing four different Tokyo 2020 Olympic video games on Switch, PS4, Mobile and Arcade, beginning later this year and into 2020.
The first game of the rank will be Tokyo 2020 Olympics The Official Video Game, coming to PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, sometime this Winter. We don’t have any solid confirmation on what the entire sports line up will be, but the trailer shows off Beach Volleyball, Table Tennis, Soccer, Baseball, BMX, Hammer Throw, Swimming and Hurdles.
Though one cool thing is that players will create their own avatar and compete in the Olympic Games with people from around the globe, on both consoles.
Switching things up to something a little less realistic, we have the next entry in the Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, this time the Mushroom Kingdom gang and the Green Hill group, will take part in a host of events, like Track and Field events, Tennis, Skateboarding. Motion controls play a big part in the game it seems, with multiple sports using them, but many players are seen in the trailer, playing in handheld mode, so they appear to be optional. Players can look forward to this game later this year, just in time for the holidays.
Mario and Sonic are also coming to Arcades, though that one is likely only Japan and a few specialist locations around the world, given how rare an Arcade is. There are no details on that one, but expect the content to be the same as the Switch release, just not as portable. This release is set to happen in the middle of next year, but no specifics for that have been given either.
Finally, we are getting Sonic at the Olympic Games for mobile devices, while not confirmed both iOS and Android are expected. The only glimpse we have in the trailer is someone playing a hurdle game, starring the famous blue blur, but the game is not expected until next Winter, they have time to do a lot more.
