Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack pricing has been revealed, along with extra content
When Nintendo announced the Expansion Pack for Nintendo Switch Online, they didn’t reveal the pricing, but overnight they did confirm it and while the cost is more than expected, it is also coming with more then was first announced as well.
First the prices, the standard 12 month membership is going up from $29.95 to $59.95 for those in Australia and from $32.95 to $69.95 for those in New Zealand. While 12 months on a Family Membership will be increased to $109.95 in Australia, up from $54.95 and over in New Zealand it will now be $119.95 up from $60.45.
The reason for the price increase is that the newly revealed paid expansion for Animal Crossing New Horizons will be included, meaning if you have the new Expansion Pack, you won’t need to pay for the DLC on its own. There is of course no word on this being the only one of these offerings, or if other DLC will be released that way, as in included in the price, so it is hard to tell if the value is there or not.
There is also the issue on, how is this fair for people that don’t play Animal Crossing New Horizons, they now have to pay extra for the DLC, even though they may not want it. There will be value in the old console titles and Nintendo have said more will come to both, but they said that for the NES and SNES apps and we barely get 12 games a year on each, so I don’t hold out hope on this being a worthwhile addition in the long run.
Nintendo did release an overview trailer for this, detailing everything, which you can watch below, but it just goes over everything above.
