Need for Speed Unbound keeps revving the engine with Lockdown

Electronic Arts and developer Criterion have announced the details around the 9th volume of content for Need for Speed Unbound, Lockdown. The new season contains a new game mode, new cars and more, check out the trailer to get an idea of what to expect, ahead of the November 26 release.

Keeping the engine running, let’s take a look at some of the new rides that players will be able to drive, including one familiar to fans of Most Wanted. Actually there are 15 rides inspired by the Most Wanted's Blacklist, along with some rides that have been hard for players to get before now. One such new ride is the Custom BMW M3 GTR ‘05, which is a take on the cover car from the 2005 game Need for Speed Most Wanted.

In order to keep the cars you need to play the new game mode Lockdown. In this mode 5 Crews of up to 3 players are pitted against each other, the Lakeshore Police Department and the relentlessly expanding Lockdown Zone, in an all-new PvPvE multiplayer mode!

Players will need to worth together in order to complete contracts, break into police lockups and take what’s inside. If you can do that and then get control of the Extraction Truck, you can keep what you take. ll this madness has been kindly laid on by your not-so-friendly neighbourhood Racer X. He is looking out for talent, acting as puppet master, putting on events with Pursuit tech active, controlling when the Lockups open and Extraction trucks roll in. Just know that if you fail to claim the Extraction Truck before it leaves, and you risk being wrecked by its deadly EMP blast.

You won’t be stuck racing on four wheels with the new season, as for the first time in NFS, drive the BMW S 1000 RR 2019 in Lockdown mode and some special PVP/Free Roam motorbike playlists! Bikes will get you into the Lockups without the need to pay and are impervious to the Zone, so make good use of them.

There are a lot of new rides coming as part of the update, the Honda Integra TYPE R and the SUBARU Impreza WRX STI are two more of them, which is good as the police are locking things down.

This new effort from the police to stop racers from, well racing, has resulted in a new EMP wall tech that damages cars when they are inside it. Sections of the map will be locked down over the round, but these areas will have the highest loot rewards. Stepping inside will not only make you take damage over time but take you straight to Heat level 5, so watch out!

Finally, there are 4 sets of Contracts for players to work through in Lockdown sessions, including the Blacklist contracts! For these, grab the Blacklist inspired vehicles from the Lockups and extract to keep them and tick them off the list. Collect every Blacklist contract and unlock the original Most Wanted BMW M3 GTR!

In addition to the new content, there is also additional updates coming to the game for all players:

  • Playlists that celebrate our NFS 30th anniversary

  • Most Wanted themed

  • New Drift Pro playlists

  • Special PVP-themed playlists like JDM-only Drift events

  • A total of 14 new playlists but over 60 routes and event configurations added for Vol9
