NBA 2K23 is changing the game, with a lot of improvements on both sides of the court

NBA 2K23 is getting closer to hitting the court once more, which means it is time to take a look at the various aspects that the team at Visual Concepts has in store. The team have established one singular aspect for this years game, Authenticity, how that translates we will have to wait and see, but this is what the team have to say on the subject.

“We value community feedback when deciding how to bring each version of NBA 2K to life, and this year’s gameplay enhancements reflect many of the changes our community was calling for the most,” said Mike Wang, Gameplay Director at Visual Concepts. “From focusing on how players can attack the basket, to more realistic on-ball defence and a new tiered badge system, all the features we’ve brought to life in the game this year will create a more authentic gameplay experience that is enjoyable for everyone.”

For those who love to play Offence, there is a lot to look forward too, from an updated Pro Stick, to being able execute those sweet dunks and more at the rim.

Here is what the team have said about the updated Pro Stick

The most obvious upgrade is the addition of new gesture combos to the Pro Stick. Internally, we refer to the new mechanics as double throws (flicking the Pro Stick in a direction, letting it go back to center, and then quickly moving the Pro Stick back in the same direction) and switchbacks (flicking the Pro Stick in a direction, letting it center, and then quickly moving the Pro Stick in the opposite direction).

There is far more information about the changes to the way the offensive side of the game plays, for all that though, your best bet is to read the Courtside Report, which is linked below.

Taking a look at the defensive gameplay there are some big changes in store, first up the overall shot defence has been given an update for this years game. In last years release and the ones before then, the game made use of a two point system, which did work as intended, but it was likely not what players wanted, so the team have fixed that.

Now there is a system that evaluates the defensive players hand, throughout the window of a shot being taken, which results in an action on screen, that replicates what you would see in a real game.

They have done a lot more to the game than just those two specific call outs, there are changes to the AI and honestly, so much more. The full breakdown can be found on the Courtside Report, which can be found here, the game will be launching on September 9th for all platforms.
