Monster Hunter Now has been announced for mobile, launches in September

Pokemon Go got you outside to capture pocket monsters, now Niantic and Capcom will hope you stay outside with Monster Hunter Now. This is just like Pokemon Go, but Monster Hunter themed, it does however use more action orientated gameplay, at least if the trailer is to be believed.

Details on it are pretty light right now, but Capcom did say the following:

In the game, players take on the role of hunters and embark on an adventure during which they hunt vividly lifelike monsters that appear in the real world.

So if you are done with Pokemon Go, this might be the game for you. But before you rush out and get all excited, just remember that this game may not release.

Pokemon Go is far and away the biggest success the company has had and not even Harry Potter Wizards Unite could compete. Since the Harry Potter game closed back in 2022, the team haven’t had any success. Catan: World Explorers soft launched in a few regions, Australia included, but was shut down in 2021, Transformers: Heavy Metal was announced in 2021 and cancelled in 2022, it never entered a testing phase.

They released Pikmin Bloom back in 2021 and despite it being another Nintendo property, as its a glorified pedometer, most people don’t care. The studio has Peridot, not the gem, out now in some regions with a full release just weeks away and NBA All-World launched back in January, the problem though is that no-one seems to care about the last two either.

The biggest concern though is just how badly Niantic seem to mess with people that don’t live in major cities, something they keep ignoring as well. Given the recent success of the Monster Hunter series, I can hope that this is better maintained, but history is not on their side. Plus there is a more traditional Monster Hunter game coming to mobile devices in the future as well, so this game may not matter.
