Lego Star Wars - Boba Fett Helmet - Review

Lego Star Wars - Boba Fett Helmet - Review

At some point in any Star Wars fans life, there was a moment when they thought Boba Fett was the coolest character in the series, even though he didn’t do a lot. There was something about that design that just stood out and became an instant classic, which is why I would imagine that Lego decided to include his iconic helmet in one of the newest Star Wars Lego Sets, which I was lucky enough to be sent one, so hopefully the force was with my build.

The first thing I noticed with the box is that it was a big box, far bigger than I thought it was going to be, as things that I had read online had the helmets in the series being on the small side. Sadly, this was a bit misleading as there was a fair amount of empty space within the box, but still, I had Lego to build and that was not going to stop me. Contained were 5 bags and a booklet, which sadly was a little bent out of shape, making it hard to stay open, but a creased booklet was not going to stop me, I had Lego to build. Given that the total count of pieces was just over 600, I honestly thought there would be less bags, but as anyone who builds Lego knows, things always take a few bags to start making sense and this was no exception, the only downside to this build, it was so fiddly.

I say that because of its size and the amount of detail that went into it, now I am not expect them to make a life-size helmet, but with the overall height of this one, including the stand just breaks 20cm, making it on the small side. Still, the amount of detail packed onto the small shape is quite impressive, now I have few Star Wars items around my place and even have a Boba Fett hoodie, so I know what I am looking at when it comes to the characters of the movies and the helmet is exceptional in that. The front of the helmet contains that now iconic Mandalorian look, with the t-shaped visor, plus with that unique green and maroon colouring, is hard to mistake it for anyone else. There are not a lot of details on this, in fact the only external add-on is the arm that sits above the helmet, which in the Star Wars world, allows Boba to track things. There are minor touches, like the small amount of grey on it, or the alternating yellow and green on the side, giving you more things to look at, no matter the angle you view it from.

Building the helmet was a little tricky because the overall shape is more like an elongated ball, rather than a standard brick shape, this requires some complicated work for the interior, but the end result is worth it. Bag 1 is where you get the interior from and that was the one that took the most for me to do, because of the nature of it, given that if things are not done right here, the remaining sides won’t line up right. While the interior is made up of bright colours, that you thankfully don’t see once completed, the rest of it is primarily that green, with maroon, black and some tan colouring to help fill out the colour palette, though there are a few extras here and there. Even the display stand is pure black, except for the colouring of the Lego logo on the plaque at the bottom and while it has a lot more colour than the others in the series, there is still very few colours used, so consider that when you want to display it.

The ‘Helmet Series’, for lack of a better definition was something I was not sure about, of course they looked fine, the designers at Lego know what they are doing, but I was concerned that what the final product would be. While it does take a few hours to put together, due to the complexity of the interior and the fiddly bits on the outside, the end result is a fantastic display piece and while not as large as I would have liked, or expected, it still ends up feeling just right.
