Lego 2K Drive announced and speeding onto all platforms this May
2K have announced, in conjunction with Lego an all new racing game Lego 2K Drive. This a big deal as the owner of 2K is Take-Two and the last racing game that was published by them was Rockstar’s Midnight Club: Los Angeles way back in 2008, so its been a while. Check out the reveal trailer for the game below.
Firstly, the game is set to release on May 19 and is coming to Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, the details on the versions can be found at the bottom.
The game is being made by Visual Concepts the same studio behind the NBA 2K and WWE 2K series of sports games, though no word which specific studio is leading this. Given that they have 9 locations around the world, the odds of finding out which team is leading the game is unlikely, but enough about that, lets talk about the game.
The game is an open world racer where players can build any vehicle and drive anywhere, all in the hopes of becoming a Lego racing legend, think the Forza Horizon 4 Lego DLC, just with more building.
There have been countless Lego games that let you build things over the years, but none of them were racing games with this level of customisation. In Lego 2K Drive, you have access to over 1,000 unique LEGO pieces, that unlock over the course of their adventure, in addition to a wealth of colour designs, stickers, flairs, and more.
Additionally, a collaboration with supercar and hypercar company McLaren Automotive will bring the McLaren Solus GT and McLaren F1 LM – just released in a LEGO Speed Champions double-pack set to help celebrate 60 years since McLaren was founded by racer and engineer Bruce McLaren – to the world of Bricklandia, as the cover cars perfectly encapsulate the thrilling, high-octane experience fans can expect in LEGO 2K Drive.
But it isn’t just cars, as there are boats and planes and more to race around in.
As for the world itself, its made from Lego, but more like the TT Games over the past decade, rather than the more recent titles like Lego Bricktales. That means while there is a lot of Lego to see, some parts of the world will be regular world. The world though will be full of things to discover and do, like racing, minigames, challenges, collectibles, things to destroy, and well-known themes from LEGO themes like City, Creator, Speed Champions and more.
