Humankind on consoles is delayed, indefinitely
Humankind has been doing well on PC for a year or so now and was soon set to launch on consoles, however overnight Sega and developer Amplitude Studios announced that the game has been delayed, with no new date provided and refunds for any orders being given.
This is the full statement about the delay:
We have to share some sad news with you today: We and our partner Aspyr Media have run into unexpected challenges in porting HUMANKIND™ to consoles, and have to delay the release on Playstation 4/5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S until further notice.
We know this will be frustrating for many of you, but we believe this delay is for the best, as we want to make sure to provide the best possible experience to console players. Unfortunately, we're not in a position to give a timeframe on a new release date right now, but we will update you all as soon as we can. In the meantime, anybody who has pre-purchased on digital storefronts will receive a refund where applicable in line with platform policy.
Thank you for your understanding,
The Amplitude Team
Given that the game was meant to launch in just a few weeks, this is either a late game issue that has severely impacted the game, or it was never anywhere near the quality that was expected and they realised shipping it was not going to be a good thing.
Aspyr Media, the folks who have been porting old Star Wars games to modern platforms, were also the same studio that brought Civilization VI to Switch, Xbox and PlayStation, so they know how to do a RTS type game with a controller.
