FIFA 23 reveals itself, showing off new inclusions likes Women's leagues and cross-play

Electronic Arts have officially announced FIFA 23, though with all the cover art reveals it was bound to happen, but this year will see some big changes across all the games, mostly as FIFA 23 now includes Women’s clubs and of course a host of technical improvements.

Across all versions of the game, which includes Switch, players will now find the Barclays Women’s Super League and Division 1 Arkema, meaning there is even more teams and players in the game, just how man you might ask.

Well with their inclusion, there are now more than 19,000 players, over 700+ teams, that can play in over 100 stadium from around the world and as part of over 30 leagues, there is a lot of content here. FIFA 23 is the only place you can play the iconic UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, UEFA Europa Conference League, CONMEBOL Libertadores, CONMEBOL Sudamericana, Premier League, Bundesliga, and LaLiga Santander in the same game.

“I’m delighted that the Barclays Women’s Super League will be one of the first women’s club competitions to feature in EA SPORTS FIFA 23, with the franchise historically having one of the largest and most engaged gaming communities in the world,” said Navin Singh, The FA’s Commercial Director. “The added visibility a global brand like EA SPORTS will provide for our league, teams and players cannot be underestimated. This very much supports our ambition to accelerate the growth of the women’s game in England, and highlights our commitment to open up the Barclays Women’s Super League, and make it even more accessible, to new audiences around the globe.”

"This partnership between D1 Arkema and EA SPORTS is excellent news for the league, the clubs, the players, but also for the fans who, starting this year, will be able to discover their favorite players and participate in exclusive activations,” said Francois Vasseur, Marketing Director of the French Football Federation. “It represents a huge step for D1 Arkema as a leading league with a worldwide following."

.FIFA 23 will offer players the usual modes that they have come to enjoy, so a Career Mode, Pro Clubs, FIFA Ultimate Team and of course, Volta Football. In addition, the game now features a new Training Center, which will give new players, or those who want to refine their skills, the chance to learn the fundamentals, before stepping out onto the pitch.

For those who are playing on Xbox Series X|S, PC or PlayStation 5, you can take full advantage of HyperMotion2, which has evolved team and player movement across the pitch is more responsive, smart and authentic, whether jockeying against a defender or claiming an aerial ball against an attacker as a keeper.

Beyond that there is a new dribbling system, new acceleration mechanics, enhanced player awareness and, for something fun, the grass is now greener.

One massive addition is that cross-play is being included with the game, but there are some restrictions, with each version of the game limited to cross-play with that same versions, so Switch players can only play with other Switch players. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One can cross-play, or PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC players can also cross-play, but you CAN NOT cross play between the generations, so no PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5.

Thankfully EA have released this nice graphic to showcase how the cross-play works, with modes and platforms, however a much more detailed look at what you can do on what version of the game, can be found here.

Finally, let’s talk Switch, I mentioned it before but the Switch release is getting new content, in the form of the Women’s Clubs and some new stadiums for it, as well as the new presentation package, so new graphics and menus, but like the last 4 years, the gameplay within is identical, so if you own last year, the gameplay will be the same.

It does feature the same modes, offers a different take on FIFA Ultimate Team, but the core of the game is the same and because it is the Legacy Edition, there is no cross-play between it and the other platforms. If you want to order it, you can do so via the eShop today.

Speaking of ordering the game, if you opt to get the Ultimate Edition, access for that will be granted on September 27, if you opt for the standard game or the Legacy Edition, that will happen on September 30, with orders for all open now.
