Exoprimal is merging dinosaurs and mech suits in 2023
Kicking off the recent State of Play, was the reveal of Exoprimal, an all-new game from Capcom that is an online game, featuring mechsuits and waves, upon waves of dinosaurs.
Capcom have provided some more details about the story that players can experience when the game is released, here is the exact description as provided by them.
It’s 2040 and the planet is in crisis. Dinosaurs are appearing from thin air and laying waste to cities across the globe. Threatened by history’s deadliest creatures, the world turns to the powerful Aibius Corporation and its revolutionary technology for help. The company’s next-generation AI, Leviathan, can forecast where dinosaur outbreaks will occur and deploy Exofighters to the area. Armed with state-of-the-art mechanized combat armor known as Exosuits, these warriors represent humanity’s last hope.
If that sounds epic, then you are about to get blown away, because while co-op is a core pillar of the experience, there is more to it. In the game’s main mode, Dino Survival, teams fight for every breath against countless dinosaurs while racing to complete missions before rival squads in 5v5 matches.
Yes, you read that right, while you and your friends are attempting to survive the ever imposing threat of dinosaurs and completing objectives, there will be another team pushing to complete them at the same time. Exofighters will need to stay on their toes as hunts transition into precious cargo deliveries or desperate last stands against relentless assaults. But if you get bored of that, you can always take the fight to the other team and try to mess their experience up.
You can check out this developer video for the game, that explains a little more about the Exofighters and more.
There is one thing to be concerned about though, this is the line from Capcom:
“While Exoprimal is purely focused around multiplayer, a narrative is interwoven throughout the game. Players can sink their teeth into the world’s rich history and colorful characters by unlocking new story threads and piecing together the mystery behind the dinosaur outbreaks.“
The problem with this, is that this has never worked, outside of Destiny and that is because Destiny provided a very, very simple story. Anthem tried the same approach as Exoprimal and it failed, Titanfall tried to blend story into multiplayer and failed and even Battlefield 2042 tried and failed. As someone who is all in on story, there has to be more to it, than hopefully finding random nuggets of information whilst attempting to survive a horde of deadly dinos.
While it was revealed during the State of Play, the game is coming to most platforms, with Switch being left out, so PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC via Steam players can enjoy the game in 2023.
