Dragon Quest 12 is now in development
In a message to fans on Twitter, Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii thanked everyone for a great year, but also announced that 2019 was the year when Dragon Quest 12 began development. Now nothing else was said, just that it was happening, but this marks the first time we have heard anything about the game being made, check out the translated message below, thanks to Twitter user BlackKite.
Happy New Year.
Last year we started with publishing the movie Dragon Quest: Your Story, then releasing the Switch version of Dragon Quest 11, the mobile version of DQ Walk, the announcement of The Adventure of Dai anime along with its game adaptation, the production of [DQ]12 and more; even now after 33 years have passed since I made the 1st game, I feel very glad that I can do new challenges like these. Thank you very much to all users who have cheered on Dragon Quest until now, and also to all of the many staff members who have supported me. I don’t know how long I can go on, but I feel like I want to do my best just a little bit more. I hope this year will be an amazing year to everyone. I’m looking forward to work together in this year.
First day of Reiwa 2

The last game, Dragon Quest XI Echoes of an Elusive Age was announced to be in development in 2013, but was not announced for any platforms until 2015, before hitting PlayStation 4 and 3DS(at least in Japan) in 2017 and finally coming to Switch in 2019, so hold back any expectations of it coming out anytime soon.
Given how long these games take to make, I would that it will come to PlayStation 5 and perhaps Switch, depending on when it releases, for now though, we have to wait.
