Disneyworld is getting ready to celebrate 50 years of magic, with new shows and more
Walt Disney World, the Disney resort in Florida, is celebrating 50 years this October 1st, which will mark the first day of 18 months of celebrations and more details have been reveal as to what is going to happen.
When Walt Disney World opened on October 1st 1971, it was named after Walt Disney, who founded the company and along side the Magic Kingdom park, two hotels joined it, the Contemporary and Polynesian Village, but that has grown to include now four theme parks, two water parks, four mini golf courses, five full size golf courses, more than 25 hotels owned by Disney and a dozen more by others, two massive food locations, a monorail, bus and gondola network that all guests can use for free and beyond.
The castle at Magic Kingdom Park, which has already been painted in preparation for the celebration, will also be host to a new nighttime show called Disney Enchantment, as it will debut on October 1st.
This new show will take guests on a journey filled with adventure, wonder and empowerment. Inspiring everyone to believe in magic, “Disney Enchantment” will feature music, enhanced lighting, stunning fireworks and, for the first time, immersive projection effects that extend from Cinderella Castle down Main Street, U.S.A.
Over at EPCOT, the new show Harmonious will also debut on October 1st and is the first new show, outside of the temporary one, since IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth debuted on October 1st, 199.
This new show, which features a Stargate shaped barge, which is then surrounded by four additional smaller ones, will blend screens, both digital and water based, lasers, fire and fireworks in the sky, to take viewers on a new journey.
Disney are calling this show ‘a grand, powerful tribute to the unifying power of story and song’, which will be be shown to people by embracing new technical magic as mentioned above. Harmonious will feature new interpretations of classic Disney songs, reimagined in more than a dozen languages by a diverse group of 240 artists from around the world, check out a photo of the show below, from some technical rehearsals.
Something else new that will open on October 1st, is that of Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, an all new ride, if you don’t count the version at Disneyland Paris, that will shrink guests down to the size of Remy and take them on wild adventure as they scurry through Gusteau’s famous restaurant.
With new outfits, food, shows and more, there is going to be a lot to see and do over the 18 month long celebration, even more so when we are allowed to leave the country to go see it. You might even get to see the newly born Masai giraffe, who doesn’t have a name yet.
