Cars on the Road is racing onto Disney+ this September

Disney and Pixar have announced that on September 8, what Disney are calling Disney+ Day, an all-new short series that has Cars stars Lightning and Mater, hit the road on a cross-country road trip. Check out the debut trailer for the series below.

The Disney+ Original series follows Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) and his best friend Mater (voice of Larry the Cable Guy) as they head east from Radiator Springs on a cross-country road trip to meet up with Mater’s sister.

While there have been countless shorts staring Mater, and to a lesser extent Lightning, this is the first series that Owen Wilson has lent his voice too, those other shorts were a soundalike.

"The series is a romp across the country with Lightning McQueen and Mater," says director Steve Purcell. "Like any real road trip, every day is a new mini-adventure with unexpected twists and turns."

Along with the trailer, we also got the first poster for the series, which features some imagery from the various stops the pair will make along their trip.
