ASUS are evolving the laptop form again with their Zenbook Fold
CES can be a wonderful show for technology, while some companies will use it to relaunch existing models of hardware, just with some newer internals, we do get them occasionally doing something new and that is what ASUS have done with the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED, a laptop that has a foldable screen.
If the name and video above didn’t get it away, this is a laptop that can be closed, like any other, the difference though is that the screen is on both halves, much like some of the recent Samsung folding phones.
The screensize is decent 17.3inch display, meaning that it is on the larger side of things, at least when used in the traditional laptop layout, when used in a portrait mode though, the screen size becomes as 12.5inch display, on both halves, making it still quite useable for all your day to day needs.
One clear thing missing is the keyboard and for that ASUS are offering a bluetooth keyboard and touchpad, which when paired the folding design provides the versatility of multiple modes — PC, Laptop, Tablet, On-Screen Keyboard, Book and Extend.
It isn’t just about having a display that can fold in half, the screen is also PANTONE Validated, and also TÜV Rheinland-certified for eye care, with a 100% DCI-P3 gamut, plus it is accompanied by Dolby Vision HDR for ultra-vivid picture quality along with Dolby Atmos immersive audio and a powerful quad-speaker Harman Kardon-certified sound system.
For next-generation smart capabilities, an HD IR camera works together with Windows Hello and the new Intel Visual Sensing Controller chip to enable several new AI-powered features, including user-presence detection; an integrated colour sensor for automatic adjustment of screen brightness and colour temperature; and a 5 MP webcam with ASUS 3D Noise Reduction technology for clearer video calls.
To ensure effortless performance and connectivity, the laptop delivers the latest 12th Generation Intel Core i7 U-Series processors, Intel Iris Xe graphics and two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports, which support fast charging of the 75 Wh battery and connections to external displays.
Co-engineered with Intel, the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED design will meet the requirements of an Intel Evo laptop through Intel’s hardware specifications and key experience targets for responsiveness, instant wake, battery life, fast charge and intelligent collaboration. Zenbook 17 Fold OLED will be available for purchase in mid-year 2022.
