ASUS are bringing their skills to the portable monitor space with the ZenScreen Fold OLED
At CES 2024, ASUS revealed a new portable monitor that can be taken anywhere and used to extend your PC, Mac or even enlarge your Switch gaming, with the big twist on the ZenScreen Fold OLED MQ17QH, being that it folds in half.
When you fully open the ZenScreen Fold OLED MQ17QH, you’ll be treated with a large 17.3-inch display ready to greatly increase your available screen real estate. In landscape orientation, it offers an extra-tall 2560×1920 resolution that shows you more of your primary workspace without scrolling. You might think of it like two 12.5-inch 1920×1080 displays, rotated in portrait mode and placed side-by-side.
While the screen is a folding screen, it does not use the traditional style of fold that is seen on phones and other folding device. Instead the team have employed a waterdrop-style hinge, which uses a lot of parts to bring the two halves together in a way that eliminates any gap between them. Additionally, this design minimizes any creasing along the spine of the ZenScreen Fold OLED — when the display is active and fully opened, you’ll hardly be able to tell that there’s a hinge behind the display at all.
As for its size, well once its opened the screen is a whopping 9.7mm thick, meaning its just over 1mm thicker than an iPhone 15 Pro. However unlike that phones 187g, the screen clocks in at 1.17Kg in weight, but it does come with two USB-C ports, that are used to power the display as well as connecting a source like a Switch. Something else that is nice to see, the screen comes with a L-shaped USB-C cable, to ensure that the cable gets out of your way once connected.
In addition to the USB Type-C ports, you’ll find a mini-HDMI port ready for you to connect a wide range of devices like game consoles and cameras. A headphone jack lets you enjoy high-quality audio privately while using the ZenScreen Fold OLED MQ17QH.
The only thing we don’t know about the screen is when its going to release here and its price. However given the tech inside of it, I would not imagine its going to be cheap.
