Meet Nintendo Labo

Overnight, Nintendo announced that they will be announcing a fun new way to play with Switch, for kids and kids at heart and now we know what they are talking about, meet Nintendo Labo. 

Players will get to assemble a variety of cardboard creations, which take the Nintendo Switch and Joy-Con and use them in a range of ways. For example, you can build a functioning 13-key piano that brings your musical creations to life once the Nintendo Switch console and Right Joy-Con controller are inserted. As you play, the IR Motion Camera in the Right Joy-Con detects which keys are pressed and translates them into unique notes that are heard through the console. You can even take control of your very own motorbike by constructing a functioning set of handlebars, with a Joy-Con inserted in each side and the Nintendo Switch console cradled in the middle. Simply hit the ignition button, turn the right handle to engage the accelerator and watch your adventure unfold on the Nintendo Switch screen, as you race to new destinations.

“Nintendo Labo continues our longstanding mission of making people smile by surprising them with new experiences,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s President and COO. “It is an exciting evolution of the Nintendo Switch platform – one designed to inspire curiosity, creativity and imagination in people of all ages.”

Nintendo Labo is set to release on April 20th, with two kits, the Variety Kit and the Robot Kit, those looking for the Variety Kit will be able to pick it up for $99.95 and the Robot Kit for $119.95.

“We are excited to introduce Nintendo Labo, our new invitation for everyone to make, play and discover with Nintendo Switch,” said Kamon Yoshimura, Managing Director of Nintendo Australia. “We are looking forward to seeing how families and all creative minds craft new ways to play together.”

However for now, you can see what you get in each kit, the Robot Kit contains a large cardboard backpack and accessories, which turn you into a giant robot in the game.

Perhaps the most appealing thing is that the entire Nintendo Labo range requires no other skills, only some patience to put it all together. No scissors or glue is required, just fold and insert, but as its cardboard, you can decorate any piece anyway you want, with a special customising kit being released as well.
