Xbox announce a lot more support for PC

In a surprising move, Xbox have announced that Xbox Game Pass is coming to PC, with head of Xbox Phil Spencer, giving out a host of details on the Xbox Blog, but confirming more details are coming at the Xbox E3 Briefing, which is set to air at 6am on Monday June 10, here in Australia.

First up is that Game Pass is coming to PC, but just like the Xbox One iteration of the subscription service, players will get access to over 100 titles, from a host of publishers like Xbox, Bethesda, Sega and Devolver Digital, plus many more. Those who enjoy a title will be able to buy it outright from the Microsoft Store, with a 20% saving on the full game, plus subscribers will get a 10% discount on DLC.

Two years ago, we launched Xbox Game Pass on Xbox One, and since then we’ve seen how valuable a curated library of high-quality games can be for players and game developers alike. It offers a great way to discover and play your next favorite game. We researched whether a similar opportunity exists for PC players and PC game developers, and we believe that it does. We also considered the importance of bringing something new and additive to the PC gaming ecosystem, and we believe that we can. So, we designed a service specifically for the needs of PC gamers and PC game developers. It’s called Xbox Game Pass, just like the original, but it’s a new experience that we are building together with the PC community.

But the PC news does not stop there, as Phil confirmed that the Microsoft made PC titles are coming to Steam, with the announcement of Halo: The Master Chief Collection already announced for the platform, as well their own storefront.

We will continue to add to the more than 20 Xbox Game Studios titles on Steam, starting with Gears 5 and all Age of Empires I, II & III: Definitive Editions. We know millions of PC gamers trust Steam as a great source to buy PC games and we’ve heard the feedback that PC gamers would like choice. We also know that there are other stores on PC, and we are working to enable more choice in which store you can find our Xbox Game Studios titles in the future.

Finally, support is being made for Windows32 games on the Microsoft Store and Windows 10, meaning that gamers will finally be able to play classic PC titles, on their machine, without needing to worry about compatibility.

All the details are listed in full on the blog, but more details will happen at E3, which is now just over a week away.
