Xbox Live Gold is being replaced by Xbox Game Pass Core
Xbox have announced that after some 20 years, Xbox Live Gold is going away and will be replaced by Xbox Game Pass Core, for the same price but with a slightly different value add.
Currently, Xbox Live Gold offers players access to 2 ‘free’ games a month as part of the Games with Gold program and it provides access to online multiplayer, so the basics. The new service will keep the online multiplayer aspect, but will swap out the 2 monthly games for a library of 25 titles, with updates happening only a few times a year.
Here is the breakdown of the new tiers, including the PC and console only Game Pass levels:

A full page from Xbox can be found here, with a few little questions you might have. One thing to note, Games with Gold will continue next month, but there will be no September line up, so whatever the August game is that starts mid-month, will be available until September 14th.
Honestly, given the lack of updates for Xbox Live Gold, it needed something done to it, so I am happy to see that it has finally caught up, now we wait and see if it matters.
