WNBA comes to NBA 2K21 complete with a new career mode

It has finally happened, after many years of asking and a taste of it last year, the NBA 2K series is adding The W, a full MyPlayer experience focused around the WNBA to NBA 2K21. Check out the teaser for the new content below.

There is one big asterisk on the news though, the new additions are only going to be included on the next gen versions of the game, so Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, if you own the game on the current hardware and don’t plan on getting the new ones, you are out of luck.

Players will be able to create their own fully customizable WNBA player and take her through a pro career featuring all 12 WNBA teams and the league’s brightest stars including Breanna Stewart, Napheesa Collier and Diana Taurasi.

"We're really proud to continue our great partnership with the WNBA and introduce players to The W," stated Visual Concepts senior producer Felicia Steenhouse. "Being able to recognize yourself both on and off the court is incredibly important to us. The W helps us elevate women's basketball and highlights the starpower of the WNBA."

Los Angeles Sparks forward Candace Parker added: “Creating your own player to take over the league is one of the many reasons why people love to play NBA 2K. I’m so excited to see the 2K team elevate the WNBA experience with The W. This will be a great way to introduce the next generation to women’s basketball and showcase our league.”

Another first for the franchise – players can now sit in both the GM and commissioner’s chair in MyWNBA, where they can drive the growth of all 12 WNBA teams and the entire league.

If you think you have the skills you can take things online and compete in a 3v3 mode, set on an exclusive court, featuring some made art on the back wall.

For all the details, there is a brand new courtside report and like the occasional other one, Mike Wang is not at the helm this time, instead it is Felicia Steenhouse, a Senior Producer on the game. You can read the WNBA focused Courtside Report, right here.
