We finally got an update on Starfield... sort of
Todd Howard is known as many things, a leading game designer and a very nice person among them, but what he is not know for is talking about his games early and that is still the case with Starfield. Though, whilst on a podcast with Xbox’s Major Nelson, he revealed a few little things about the upcoming Bethesda Game Studios next title, check it out.
The important words are these:
“I will say that it’s a really exciting project that we’ve been doing for a long time,” Howard went on to say about Starfield. “Once we got on the new systems, the things we found we could do — and so it’s a major engine rewrite on that game. People who know me know I like to wait as long as possible to show stuff — so we’re closer to showing it than we were at the beginning of this conversation. I think it’s going to be something really, really special and we’re excited to work with Xbox on that.”
What this means is that the game, might have initially been built on the same engine as Skyrim’s Special Edition release, which itself was an enhanced version of their Creation Engine. Any update to that engine can only be a good thing, given how many issues people found with it early on, the other good news is if it is the same engine, or an upgraded one, think Creation Engine 2.0 mod support might be a thing.
He did also state that we now know more things about Starfield than we did before, which is true, but even a generic listing about the game would be nice. Starfield has no release date, no platforms at this time.
