The Retro Mechanical Keyboard is the latest from 8BitDo
In a move that would seem out of left field, if 8BitDo hadn’t made it part of the mission to keep doing that, the company has announced their first keyboard and it sports a familiar look.
Called the 8BitDo Retro Mechanical Keyboard, it comes in two different styles the N Edition, which is the one at the top and below, or the Fami Edition, which is at the bottom. The differences are cosmetic, because inside each you will find an 87-key layout that uses Kailh Box Switches, V2 White to be exact and Dyb-sub PBT keycaps.
The connection methods are the usual array of verstile from the group, as you can go via Bluetooth, wireless via the 2.4Ghz adaptor or wired via USB-C. Above the function keys, users will find some familiar looking buttons, at least anyone who has used any 8BitDo controller, but those buttons and all the others can be modified by the companies software.
Now the company states that the keyboard is only compatible with Windows 10 and up or Android 9.0 and up, but given the Bluetooth connection method, it might work on more platforms than just those, just not officially. The below image is the Fami Edition.
As for when its out and pricing, well the keyboard will launch in America on September 20th, but a local release date hasn’t be announced. The US price is $99.95 plus tax, which converts to roughly $170 here, but again no local pricing has been announced.
What do you think, are you willing to go retro with the companies first keyboards?
