The next PlayStation 5 console update will bring in some highly requested features

PlayStation have announced the features for the next update for the PlayStation 5 console, most of which are driven by fan feedback, meaning they are very welcome inclusions.

As with all the major updates from PlayStation, the update will start to roll out today, in a beta state, in order to test them in the real world and get feedback from users. Because of the beta status, there is no set date for when this might roll out to all users, but past updates have been in beta form for a few months.

Here are all the inclusions in this new update:

  • Join a Discord Voice Chat on Your PS5 Console

  • Start or Request a Share Screen from Your Friend’s Profile

  • New “Join Game” Icon in Party Chats

  • New “Friends Who Play” Tile

  • Manually Upload Game Captures to PlayStation App

  • Variable Refresh Rate support for 1440p

  • Game Library Enhancements

  • Game Presets for Multiplayer Session Preferences

  • PS4 to PS5 Saved Data Migration

  • PS5 to PS5 Data Transfer

  • Screen Reader Improvements

  • Wireless Device Update for DualSense Wireless Controller

There are a number of features in that list that make me happy, so I am sure there are one or two that will make you happy as well.

One of the ones I am most excited for is the ability to upload screens and recordings to the PlayStation App, for videos they must be under 3 minutes in length and not in 4k. The console can auto-upload items, but now if there are images that you have on the console you want to get on your phone, you don’t have to complete a complicated to make it happen.

Another feature that is going to be amazing, is the ability to update the PlayStation 5 controller, without needing to connect a cable to it. Of course, once the feature is on your console, you will have to connect the controller via a cord one last time but from then on its no more cords for updates.

The final feature I think is amazing is that you can finally filter your game library by platform. You can now also sort and filter games when adding games to a gamelist. Plus you can use filters in your library to easily find PS VR games, as well as PS VR2 titles when PS VR2 launches later this month.

There is more detail on the remaining updates on the PlayStation Blog, so head on over to get the full breakdown.
