The Mandalorian & Grogu is a new Star Wars movie
The folks over at Lucasfilm have announced that Din Djarin and Grogu are heading to the big screen, with an all-new movie called The Mandalorian & Grogu set to enter production in 2024.
The movie is being directed by Jon Favreau, who created the character, and is also producing it, along with Kathleen Kennedy, and Dave Filoni.
“I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created. The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”
There is no release date for it yet, but with its timeline only starting in 2024, something before the end of 2026 is unlikely. We do have one piece of concept art though, which is below.
However, before you star chomping at the bit for this news, just remember that Lucasfilm has completely messed up Star Wars movies. Regardless of what you think of the sequel trilogy, they at least released, something countless others have failed to do.
Patty Jenkins, the director of Wonder Woman was meant to create a film based around Rogue One, it has been cancelled. Taika Waititi was confirmed to be directing a movie, that has been delayed quite a bit and still has no time frame on its release.
Star Wars The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson was confirmed to be creating an all-new trilogy of Star Wars movies, but who knows what the hell is going on there. The last reports of it came from Star Wars Celebration 2023 where Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy confirmed they are still talking, but there is nothing actively in production.
There was also the movie to be created by David Benioff & D.B. Weiss, the folks that brought Game of Thrones to life on tv, which was cancelled when they signed a deal with Netflix. Plus there are countless rumours of directors pitching films that go no where.
Plus remember this does not account for the three new films that were announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023, where Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny director James Mangold, was revealed to be creating a movie based around the origins of the Jedi. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy announced a new movie that would bring back Daisy Ridley as a Jedi Master, years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker and Dave Filoni’s second cinematic production was also coming.
The point is that for all the Star Wars movies that Lucasfilm announce, they are not actually releasing any, outside of the numbered entries, or the ones set within that period. Sure their small screen work is mostly successful but it seems the big screen is elusive for them.
