The Great War: Western Front will put players in control of the battlefields of World War 1

Frontier Foundry and developer Petroglyph have announced The Great War: Western Front, an all-new real-time strategy game that lets players to experience World War 1 through the eyes of both Theatre Commander and Field Commander. Check out the debut trailer for it below.

If the name Petroglyph sounds familiar, they are the same studio that remastered Command and Conquer a number of years ago for EA, with many members of the studio, responsible for the creation of the series in the first place.

Commanding either the Allied Nations or the Central Powers, players will make tactical and strategic decisions with repercussions that will resonate throughout the entire Western Front, one of the main theatres of war during WW1. Offering unparalleled levels of strategic depth, they’ll take on the dual role of Theatre Commander and Field Commander to master both turn-based grand strategy and real-time battles.

Something that I find cool, is that battles take place in a living, persistent world, with existing battlefields holding the scars of previous battles and deteriorating as players revisit them, while changing weather conditions will provide additional challenges for each unit.

There is no date for the game yet, but it is expected in 2023.
