Take it for a spin, Lego unveil a life-sized McLaren F1 at the Australian Grand Prix

In celebration of the Australian leg of the Formula 1 Grand Prix taking place this weekend in Melbourne, Lego have rolled out a life-sized version of the McLaren F1 Lego car, which is made up of over 250,000 Lego bricks, check out the time-lapse of its construction below.

Designed in close collaboration between engineering experts from the LEGO Group and McLaren Racing, the LEGO Technic McLaren Formula 1 Race Car comes decked out with the McLaren team’s 2021 season livery and gives fans a glimpse of what to expect of the new-look 2022 F1 race cars as the sport heads into an era of refreshed regulations.

The giant build required 288,315 blocks, and over 1893 hours to construct, assembled by Australias very own Ryan ‘The Brickman’ McNaught. Formula 1 fans will notice the incredible attention to detail with this build, such as the V6 cylinder engine with moving pistons, steering activated from the cockpit, suspension and a differential lock.
