Super Smash Bros Ultimate digs up new details for its newest fighter
As promised very early this morning, Nintendo released a deep dive into the new character coming to Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Steve and Alex from Minecraft, if you have 45 minutes, check it out, or jump below for a summary. The most important news though is that Steve and friends will arrive on October 14, those who own the second Challenger Pack will receive it the moment it goes live, others will need to buy it.
Steve is the main fighter, with Alex, Zombie and Enderman being skins of him, but rather than just having the four, Steve has two alt skins, Alex has two and then Zombie and Enderman round out the total count of eight.
The attacks use a combination of tools from the main game, a Sword, which has a small attack range is your primary, but you can use an axe to attack up more. A pickaxe allows for a range of attacks, depending on which way you hit and finally, there are non-weapon based attacks, like setting fire to the ground, or crafting a magma block above you.
Crafting is also something new, as in order to use better weapons, you need to mine resources and then build them. By default you will have wooden options for your tools, but as anyone who plays Minecraft will tell you, that is not enough. Standing still and pressing B with nothing else, will let you mine for resources, you then need to find a crafting table and press B in front of it to make something, thus allowing your upgrade path.
Of course, a big change for Kirby is when he swallows a Minecraft fighter, he loses his round appeal and becomes a bit square.
Finally, we are going to talk stages, there is a new stage called Minecraft World and when you select it, you will randomly get one of six biomes and the layout of the stage will change each time. There is Plains, Birch Forest, Savana, Taiga, Snowy Tundra and Stone Shore.
