Steel yourself for adventure as Blades of Fire is revealed

505 Games, and developer MercurySteam have announced Blades of Fire. The game is currently set for release May 22 of this year, and will throw players into a world where the evil Queen Nerea has turned all steel to stone, rendering any opposition to her rule futile, except for your character.

The partnership between the studios was actually announced way back in 2021, so the game has been a long time coming. MercurySteam is not a big name, but they have created a number of wonderful titles including the recent Metroid Dread for Nintendo. In fact they also made some Castlevania titles for Konami, giving them the title of the only developer in the world to create both halves of the MetroidVania genre.

In Blades of Fire you are Aran de Lira, a young ward of the former king and someone who grew up with the now Queen Nerea. You also have the ability to create weapons from steel, something very few can do and even less now that the Queen has turned most steel to stone. Develop your skills and craft weapons that suit your preferable fighting style. Remember, when facing your foes, your choice of weapon will be key to success! Only the right weapons will allow you to take down certain enemies.

You won’t be alone on your journey. As a player, you’ll be joined by Adso, Aran’s loyal companion. Adso will offer you invaluable guidance and support throughout your adventure together. Sharp minded and loyal, Adso plays a crucial role in your quest! Listen to what he has to say. He will teach you a thing or two.

The game is currently dated for May 22 and will release on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. For those on PC the game appears to be exclusive to the Epic Game Store, at least for now.
