Square Enix's Marvel's Avengers is closing down after 3 years of service

Back in August of 2020, Square Enix released their live service game Marvel’s Avengers and since then developer Crystal Dynamics released a lot of content for the game, with Hawkeye aka Kate Bishop, Black Panther and just last December, the Winter Soldier and of course, PlayStation owners got Spider-man as a platform exclusive character.

However on September 30th 2023 the game will no longer offer up any support for the title, in fact the last major update will arrive in March. Here is the timeline for what lies ahead.

March 31st - Update 2.8 will be released

September 30th - Support ends

It is not a big timeline to be sure, but the team can still make a bunch of changes between now and the end of September, if they have a mind too.

The 2.8 update will be big as it will be the final large scale balance change, but unlike other updates, this one will not add any new cosmetics. It will however unlock all the game’s Marketplace, Challenge Card, and Shipment cosmetic content available to all players for free. Every single Outfit, Takedown, Emote, and Nameplate from the Marketplace, Challenge Cards, and Shipments will be free for all players from this date onwards if you own a copy of the game.

What that means is if you buy a copy of the game next year on disc, all that content will be available for you then. If you own the game now, but never played it beyond a few hours, all that content is free.

When Update 2.8 launches on March 31, 2023, Credits will no longer be purchasable and all remaining Credit balances will be converted into in-game resources to aid ongoing adventures. All current credit balances will be converted to the appropriate levels for in-game currencies, check out this graphic to see where the conversion lands.

The team have anticipated that players might have questions, so you can find out more about them on the games site.

So what say you? Are you bummed the game is going away or are you someone who thought it died a while ago?
