Shockwave is the next season for Apex Legends and there are some changes coming

The next season for Apex Legends has been announced and Shockwave will bring a host of new additions to the game, including a new map, so let’s dive into the details.

E-District

The first major update with the new season is that of a new map in E-District. When it was explained to me by Apex Legends World Director Ed Agostini, he said it was a ‘urban playground, that is a culmination of five years of learning’. So that sounds like nothing, until you see the map for yourself. E-District is a multi-tiered map and packed with lots of close quarters locations.

The map is a close quarters combat enthusiast's dream, featuring areas like the intricate alleys of Street Market, the dazzling Neon Square reminiscent of Tokyo's Shibuya Center, and the transformed Neon Oval Raceway with its residential nooks ideal for intense indoor battles. Bathed in stunning post-Cyberpunk aesthetics, this map promises to be a favorite in the season's first split, offering players ample opportunity to delve into its richly detailed world.

Revivals

In the heat of the game, when a player is taken out, they're not down for the count just yet! A respawn timer starts ticking away, and once it runs down to zero, the eliminated player makes a triumphant return right next to their battling squad mates—no Respawn Beacon necessary. And here's the kicker: the remaining squad can hasten their comrade's comeback by scoring knocks and kills, bringing them back into the action even quicker. It's a thrilling way to keep the momentum going and the squad in full force!

The reason why this is being added to the game, it lets players actually play the game, rather than waiting on menu screens. It can also be considered as a way for players to loose the self-preservation way of playing, because if you are thrown back into the game with in seconds of your death, then it matters not about dying in the first place.

Weapon Updates

Another major update to the gameplay on offer, dual-wielding. As Shockwave’s new Akimbo update, which allows Legends to carry and fire two P2020 pistols or Mozambique shotguns in combat.

However, wielding two guns won’t mean endless looting to kit them out – the second gun is essentially a mirror of the one in your equipment, including all of its attachments. While in Akimbo, both guns are also fully automatic with improved hip fire for ease in those scrappy close-up fights.

There are even more changes to the season, like how halfway through a match all weapon bins will now close up and gain new equipment. That means players won’t be able to count on knowing if someone has been around or is around, based on the condition of a bin.

Battle Sense is another new addition, which is designed around helping those players who run solo. One of the additions is that of health bars on enemies, they are small, but you will only see them when you are close enough to see the whites of their eyes.

You can learn about all the updates coming in the season here, with the season kicking off on all platforms on August 6th.
