Set sail for adventure later this year with Return To Monkey Island
After making a random post on April 1st, Monkey Island creator and famed game maker Ron Gilbert has announced that he is creating an all new Monkey Island game called Return to Monkey Island, check out the reveal trailer below.
Beyond the trailer, there isn’t a lot of information, we don’t even know platforms, but PC is more than likely going to happen. What we do know is that Gilbert will be joined by long-time collaborator and fellow Monkey Island developer Dave Grossman and while Gilbert hasn’t be involved in any of the games, bar the original two, Grossman did lead the team at Telltale Games on the Tales from Monkey Island series.
Long time composers for the series, Michael Land, Peter McConnell and Clint Bajakian are all back, meaning things will sound as authentically Monkey Island as they can, with actor Dominic Armato once again lending his voice to Guybrush Threepwood, no word on any of the other cast though.
LittleBigPlanet, Teraway and Knights and Bikes developer Rex Crowle has confirmed he is leading the art team for this return, which does explain the new and incredible look the game is sporting.
The game has been in development for two years now, meaning that it has been some secret and while this is now the sixth game in the series, the game is considered cannon and takes place after the events of Monkey Island 2: Le Chucks Revenge, with Curse, Escape and Tales not part of the official timeline, at least as far as the series creator Gilbert is concerned.
Either way, there is no date for this one, so we just have to wait and see what platforms it might come to, for now we wait and see, hopefully without any three-headed monkeys distracting us.
